Hunt for a place to charge

Hunt for a place to charge
The familiar hum of electricity was missing, and a sense of unease settled over me. I glanced out the window and saw that the entire neighborhood was shrouded in darkness. A total blackout. My mind raced as I wondered how long it would last and how we would manage without power.

Two days passed, and the neighborhood had transformed into a silent, eerie landscape. With everyone's phones drained of power, the need to find a charging station became urgent. A few of us banded together and set out on a mission to find a place to recharge our phones. After searching for what seemed like hours, we stumbled upon a small hotel nestled at the edge of the neighborhood. Without a second thought, we hurried inside, desperate for access to electricity.

To our surprise, the staff didn't seem to mind as we huddled around the nearest available outlet, plugging in our phones. As the battery indicators began to climb, we were greeted by a friendly waitress who seemed genuinely intrigued by our sudden appearance. The prospect of being discovered made us uneasy, and we braced ourselves for the inevitable request to leave.

However, our fears quickly vanished as the waitress inquired about our needs and how we could support the hotel. Flustered and caught off guard, we mumbled about only needing to charge our phones and leaving as soon as they were juiced up. Embarrassed by our seemingly freeloading behavior, we realized we had unfairly imposed on the hotel. Immediately, she looked at us, nodded, and assured us that it was okay.

The Deaf Boy

The Deaf Boy
Some days, I am just tempted to do things because I find them funny, and other times I do them because I am concerned about the attention or care I'd get from the recipient.

It can be a bad idea. If not terrible.

Some months ago, my sister and I decided to go to the main market for provisions and other stuff we might or will be needing. There are many shops close to the house, but from experience, we were so sure we will get those things at a lesser price if we buy them at the market.

When we got to the main market, we stopped at a plastic shop to get a bucket, and I tipped my sister on what I wanted to do. She encouraged it. Some days, we don't need sisters. Oh, I am kidding. 😄

I took the bucket which I was interested in, walked a bit inside the shop - it was a large building, and we looked around for the shop owner.

Detecting the owner of the shop, I waved as a form of greeting. She voiced out her greeting and asked me if that's all I wanted.

I demonstrated that I needed a plate and a spoon. Anytime I ask for something, and she gives me another thing, I'll make a crying sound and turn to my sister to explain.

The woman later realized that "I don't talk," so she also started demonstrating.

When I was done buying, I decided to ask for the total price.

"Ma, how much is everything?" I asked and waited for her response.

She didn't say a word to me. She was actually dumbfounded...in her mind, what could she be thinking?

My Original Charger

My Original Charger
One fateful day, catastrophe struck. My loyal charger, which had faithfully powered my phone for so long, went missing without a trace. Panic came in as I checked every part of my house, hoping to find it. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be located.

With my phone's battery draining and no charger in sight, I set out to buy a replacement. Filled with determination and a sense of urgency, I set out into the crowded streets, trekking through a series of shops and vendors in search of a way out.

Eager to reclaim the seamless charging experience I once knew, I set out to procure my own Samsung charger. However, upon reaching the store, I was met with a harsh reality: the price far exceeded my expectations. Shocked and disheartened, I reluctantly left the store, my dreams of a reliable charger slipping through my fingers.

I went into many stores, each offering a solution to my charging issues. However, with each purchase, my hopes decreased as the chargers proved to be unsuitable replacements for my beloved missing charger. They were slow and inefficient, and some even caused my phone to overheat, which was a nightmare I could not handle.

As I walked away from the store, feelings of frustration and disappointment weighed heavy on my heart. Nonetheless, I refused to be defeated by a mere charger.

I vowed to continue my search, whether through saving up for the charger or exploring alternative avenues. For the journey to reliable charging was far from over, and I was determined to see it through to the end.

New haircut, new me

New haircut, new me
The buzz of the clippers masked the other customers' conversation as I sat in the chair at the barbershop. I kept a close eye on the barber as he skillfully cut my long hair into a smooth, low cut while I observed in the mirror. I felt like a weight was being lifted off my shoulders with each pass of the clippers, both physically and metaphorically. It was a symbolic moment, letting go of the past to welcome the present.

I couldn't resist feeling the freshly cut hair with my hand while the barber was finishing up. At first, it felt weird since it was so unlike anything I was used to, but there was also a liberating quality about it. I felt a rush of confidence come over me as I paid the barber and ventured out onto the busy street. It seemed as though I had let go of previous uncertainties and fears along with my hair.

I couldn't help but notice the looks people gave me as I walked home. While some expressed astonishment and others curiosity, I maintained my composure and smiled slightly. It was wonderful to reject expectations and welcome change without hesitation. I felt like the finest version of myself, free from expectations and conventions from society, with every step.

When I opened the door after returning home, my living room's well-known sights and sounds welcomed me. However, there was a noticeable difference, like though energy was popping in the air. I couldn't help but smile when I saw myself in the corridor mirror. The individual gazing back at me was unfamiliar, but at the same time, incredibly recognizable. It was me, but a brave, fearless me willing to accept change and venture into what lay ahead. And even as I stood there, I knew that I was prepared to take on whatever lay ahead of me.

Just an Earpiece

Just an Earpiece
I never quite thought it would happen, but there I was, my earpiece missing. The culprit was none other than my so-called friend, who, in a moment of carelessness, had pocketed my cherished music-listening companion. I couldn't help but feel a pang of betrayal as I realized what had transpired. Music was my solace, my refuge, and now it was cruelly snatched away.

With my heart filled with a strange mix of annoyance and longing, I embarked on a quest to replace my stolen earpiece. I headed to the market, hoping to find a like-for-like replacement. What I found there, however, was not what I had expected. The once affordable earpieces were now priced at an astonishing 3,000 to 4,000 Naira, a stark contrast to the 500 to 1,000 Naira they used to be.

The shock of the price hike didn't deter me. I needed my music, and I was willing to fight for it. Music was an essential part of my daily routine. A day without music felt like a day without color, a day without energy. Walking to school, returning home, and spending solitary evenings, music was my constant companion.

In the end, I made a decision. Ignoring the steep cost, I purchased a new earpiece. As I walked away from the market clutching the small package, a sense of contentment washed over me. Sure, I might have expended my last card on this impulsive buy, and perhaps it wasn't the most prudent decision. But as I plugged in the new earpiece and lost myself in the melody of my favorite songs, all doubts vanished.

Better option

Better option
I set out with my friend Ella with just a single penny left in our pockets. It had been a long and exhausting day, and the thought of cooking even the simplest meal felt like an insurmountable challenge. We simply couldn't muster the energy nor the will to cook, so we decided to use our last bit of money to buy some ready-made food.

We made our way to our usual food spot only to find it closed, leaving us feeling quite disheartened. Neither of us fancied the idea of resorting to junk food, so we decided to stroll down the street to see if there was another place still open. We walked quite a distance until we finally stumbled upon a different food vendor.

To our surprise, this new place had their prices much cheaper than our usual spot. It was like a small miracle had occurred. We bought our already-made food and to our delight, we still had some change left over after the purchase.

As we sat down to enjoy our meal, the worries and stress of the day seemed to melt away. We marveled at how a seemingly simple excursion had turned out to be such a fulfilling and uplifting experience. It was a powerful reminder that sometimes, things work out even better than we expected.

Unexpected trouble

It was a typical day as I went to work, tackled my tasks and with all diligence, and eagerly anticipated the evening's plans with my friends. As the sun began its descent, I joined my friends at their favorite hangout spot, ready for a night of laughter and camaraderie.

Unknowingly my younger brother, Chukwudi, had found himself in an unexpected predicament earlier that day. While walking home from school, he encountered a group of troublemakers in the atmosphere of fear . Chukwudi's heart raced as they surrounded him, demanding his phone.

With a surge of adrenaline, he refused to comply, unwilling to part with his prized possession. The tension escalated as the ringleader stepped forward, his menacing demeanor sending shivers down Chukwudi's spine. However, luck seemed to be on his side as a passerby intervened, dispersing the would-be assailants before any harm could be done.

While all that was happening I and my friends reveled in the joy of each other's company, unaware of the turmoil brewing in Chukwudi's world. Laughter filled the air as they shared stories and indulged in carefree banter, cherishing the bonds that bound them together.

As the night wore on, my phone rang with an urgent message from my frantic parents, informing me of Chukwudi's unpleasant encounter. Shock and concern washed over me, quickly followed by a wave of relief as I learned of his safety. Without hesitation, I excused myself from the gathering, my thoughts consumed by the well-being of my brother.

Rushing home, i found Chukwudi shaken but unharmed. I enveloped him in a reassuring embrace, grateful for his safety and resilience in the face of danger. Together, we recounted the events of the day, finding solace in each other's presence and the unwavering support of our family.

In that condition I observed that my relationship with my brother has been strengthened and united by a newfound appreciation for each other's well-being. Though the day had taken an unexpected turn, it served as a poignant reminder of the importance of vigilance, resilience, and the enduring power of familial love.

Failed Attempts

I had noticed a low internet service since yesterday but that of yesterday was negligible and resurfaced to full power in minutes and to zero network strength in another minute.
But today is just the height of it, I can't load anything, browse anything or even call a person. It would be an understatement to say that since morning that I have tried over a thousand times to streak but to no avail, even if I'm able to post this, I haven't still streaked for today and it's disheartening.
I have switched from airtel to MTN all day long but yet to streak, posts doesn't even load.

So I want to beseech thee @mindviewers to come to our rescue, pardon our login streak today without having to restart our efforts. On behalf of others, I plead a one say pardon.

Not this time again

John woke up to the blaring of his alarm clock, signaling the start of what he hoped would be a productive day. As a freelance graphic designer, he had a big presentation scheduled with a potential client who seemed promising. John had poured hours of work into perfecting his pitch and creating mock-ups to showcase his skills.

However, as the day progressed, things took a turn for the worse. His morning commute was delayed due to unexpected road construction, making him late for his first meeting. Despite his best efforts to catch up, the rest of the day seemed to spiral out of control.

The presentation with the potential client didn't go as planned. Despite John's enthusiasm and preparation, the client seemed unimpressed and hesitant to commit. They raised numerous concerns and suggested significant changes to John's designs, leaving him feeling disappointed and disheartened.

To make matters worse, John's computer crashed halfway through the afternoon, causing him to lose several hours of work. Frantically trying to recover his files, he missed several important emails from other clients, resulting in missed deadlines and frustrated customers.

By the time John finally made it home, he was exhausted both mentally and physically. He sank into his couch, feeling defeated and wondering if his freelance career was worth the constant disappointments. However, as he reflected on the day, John reminded himself that setbacks were part of the journey and resolved to keep pushing forward, knowing that success often came after overcoming adversity. With renewed determination, he vowed to tackle the challenges of tomorrow with a positive mindset and unwavering perseverance.

Back in those days

Back in those days
Today, I saw a little boy walking happily with his mom. They looked like they were just coming from a barbershop because the boy had a fresh, clean haircut. His face was beaming as he held his mom's hand, hopping along and humming to some silent melody in his head.

It was a simple moment, but it brought back a flood of emotions. I couldn't help but envy the boy's carefree life. Watching him, I realized how pure and simple it is to be a child, to have the freedom to be utterly happy without a single worry. It made me long for those days, the innocent joy of being a kid, where the world seemed so much brighter and simpler. In that moment, I couldn't help but yearn for the freedom and happiness that comes with being a child.

My choice

My choice
I was scrolling through my social media feed when a dazzling pair of red shoes caught my eye. It was love at first sight. The shimmering red color and elegant design beckoned me, and I knew immediately that I had to have them. To my delight, the post revealed that the seller was located just a few blocks away from my place.

The next day, eager and full of anticipation, I set off to visit the seller's shop. As I stepped inside, I couldn't contain my excitement. I scanned the assortment of shoes on display, searching eagerly for the one that had captured my heart. Finally, there it was, the gorgeous red shoe that had captivated me online.

With a sense of joy and hope, I tried it on. However, my heart sank as I realized that the shoe didn't fit me well. It was a disappointment to say the least. The seller, noticing my disappointment, suggested I explore the other options she had available. There were several beautiful and high-quality shoes, but none of them held the same allure as the red pair I had set my heart on.

As I left the shop, I couldn't help feeling a little disheartened. It was a shame that such a beautiful shoe didn't come in the right size for me. Perhaps another time, I thought to myself. I knew that I would consider revisiting the seller in the future, as she had an impressive collection of quality shoes for both men and ladies. Even though I didn't leave with the shoe I had hoped for, I admired the seller's dedication to providing top-notch footwear and left with a glimmer of hope for finding the perfect pair in the future.

Change of plans

Change of plans
Last week, the scorching heat became unbearable as the electric supply in my area started fluctuating. I relied on my trusty fan to keep cool, but alas, it fell victim to the power fluctuations, leaving me in a sweat-soaked predicament. The fan, my cherished life-saver during this period of heat, was now out of commission.

After the initial heartbreak, I resolved to economize so I could purchase a new fan. I meticulously budgeted my money for food, savings on transport, and every penny I could save. My budget was tighter than ever, set at a modest fifteen thousand naira.

On Friday, I set out to the market with hopes of finding a replacement fan within my budget. However, to my dismay, I discovered that the lowest price for a reliable fan was twenty-four thousand naira. I couldn't afford to make the purchase on the spot.

Disheartened but undeterred, a newfound humor kindled within me. Pocketing my hard-earned money, I made my way back home. Along the journey, I decided to treat myself by buying some much-needed food supplies. Though I couldn't afford the fan I desperately needed, managing to secure provisions lifted my spirits.

As I returned home, I felt a sense of accomplishment despite the setback. I resolved that the fan would have to wait; I would make do with the stifling heat for a little while longer. After all, the highest I could do was to sleep outside should the nighttime heat become unbearable.

A broken dream

Nneka was a young, beautiful and ambitious lady, she had big dreams for her life. She wanted to further her education, she wanted to be a professional Nurse, she wanted to travel the world. She got a good job as a single lady and was gradually following her dreams, and then love struck. She met a charming young man.. David. Nneka had already travelled a few times out of the country before she got serious with David.
David was a loving sweet gentle man, he also had ambitions and big dreams, she loved him and he loved her…. then they got married. Marriage came with different demands and new responsibilities. David asked her to resign while he concentrated on building his career so she can be there for the children and take care of the home while running a business. She was to manage the business.

David never asked if Nneka was a business person or if that was what she really wanted. Nneka on the other hand accepted this request because she wanted her husband to be happy and she wanted her home to be fine (she thought)

Fast forward to 25 years after marriage, David fell sick …it was cancer and he didn’t survive. But one thing was certain, he died fulfilled or almost fulfilled. He was in his place career wise and was getting better just before he fell sick.
Nneka today is almost 60 but she’s kinda sad. She’s always reminiscing on her early years as a young woman, thinking about her aborted dreams and what life would have been like if she had not given up on her ambitions. It’s mostly regret for her, asides that she finds consolation in her children and her grandchildren. They seem to be her major achievements, which to her, doesn’t seem satisfactory enough.
I’m sad because I see this circle repeat every day…. So this is a message to young men and young women out there…

For the ladies

Sometimes you give up your dreams and sacrifice your ambitions in the euphoria of a marriage promise, or a marriage, forgetting that the excitement is only temporary and that reality would hit again soon especially when the chips are down.

When we go into a relationship that would potentially lead to marriage, we sometimes leave out some of the most important points to consider, one of which is our individual life plans, and our potential partner’s commitment in helping us achieve our life goals.
I know when two people get married, they become one… But actually, it’s still two different individuals, with different minds, and different dreams. And of course these individual differences will still play out even when they became one.

Ladies…

Before accepting that marriage proposal, discuss your dreams and ambitions and make sure he is committed to seeing you achieve your dreams, while you also show commitment in helping him achieve his.

Don’t be forced or cajoled into buying his dreams at the expense of yours. You both can support your individual dreams

Men….

It shouldn’t always be about you. Have you asked her what her plans are? Her dreams, her ambitions… she shouldn’t join you in fulfilling your ambition while she gives up hers. Trust me she may seem happy that you are happy and she may not voice out, but she could be full of regrets and unhappiness deep down. There should be a balance because we are all humans.

But of course…

If your biggest ambition as a lady is to get married and have kids, then by all means go ahead and disregard this message.

And if your partner is happy to share homely responsibilities and shows the desired commitment to see that both of you achieve your life goals, appreciate them and be equally supportive.
I know this goes both ways, but we live in a society were men are mostly particular about their wives and girlfriends joining them to build their thing and achieve their dreams without due considerations of her personal ambition… we always say “it’s for us” but what about her, is that what she really wants?

It’s okay to support your husband, infact you should do it… but husbands, it’s equally okay and fair to support your wife and help her achieve her own dreams.

If there is good planning, you both can achieve your individual goals, though it may take a little time. But first, there must be a will to support each other, and both parties must value and see each other’s dream as important.
What has caused so much disaffection in many homes today, especially when its coming from the wife, is the frustration of seeing her dreams and ambitions go down the drain for the marriage.

Encourage and support your angry wife to pursue her lifelong ambitions and see her become the happy and bubbly woman you once knew.

How I met a strange woman today

I saw a woman today , she was on bike and she stopped me, so I had to cross to the other side to meet her thinking she wants to ask me to give her directions cause the bike man that was carrying her is a hausa man...........
On getting to her, I noticed that it seems she's blind but when I look at her closely it's only one of her eyes that is blind..
Behold he grab me by the hand and start asking me some questions that's irritating, asking me what's my tribe, the type of work I do, where I came from, have I married.... After answering all those questions, she said I should give her money for her medications and transport fare... I was like shey me myself I don get medicine for myself... She is still holding my hand oooo, I didn't even know that some old women even get strength pass we youth ganseff, cos all effort to get rid of her hand from mine went in vain.........
I decided to summon courage even though am scared deep down,. I ask her where she was going and where she is coming from, I also ask the bike man how much is her fare,,,, the bike dey tell me Hausa.. deep down i said temi bami....As all this was going on am trying to remove her hand from mine but I couldn't, she hold am as if I owe her money........
I have 1k with me , so I told the bike man to give me 800, as I payed the bike man.... Guess what the woman say....
She said I should give her apomeji abo ( 500) for her medication,,, I was now asking her that how much is apomeji abo, cause I didn't know the actual amount, I even thought it's 200,, not until when I get home before I know it's 500... I couldn't laugh....
So I told her quickly that the money was not mine , saying that, I use scope remove her hand from mine...As I was turning back to leave like this, she grabbed my hand again..
I was shocked, my mind is telling me that, Daniel you don enter this one already.... She told me to please give her the 500....
The money that I just borrowed from loan app yesterday, I don't know how to pay it back....
I told her that the money is not mine even though am not lying, cos it was my brother ( David) that called me to come and give him key with the money before I met the woman..........
When I see that she won't hear , I remove her hand and she look at me with her one eye and frown and hissed and told the bike man to move ...
I was Scared like!!!! even though its kind of funny............
Still scared whenever I remember the incident, cos I don't like having encounter with old women.......

Pension or not

Good morning.
Have you ever asked yourself the question, "why do we work"?
Some will say they work in order to avoid hunger. Some will say they work in order not to just stay idle at home. Some will say they work in order to fit into the society.
There are several other reasons why we work.

Until you start to ask questions about your building towards the future, then you are on the right path.
Have you ever asked yourself, "When a man is too old to work," what is my plan towards that phase?

You can't work forever, so now that you are still much younger, I hope you are working towards that stage and not just working to eat and survive the present moment or economy?

That job you are currently engaged in, is it a temporary or permanent solution? You should be able to identify a permanent solution or a temporarily solution and not confuse them.

I am trying to find a permanent solution and sacrificing my convinience at this stage. I hope I find it soon: a permanent solution to my human needs and questions. Because when I am too old to work, I hope I have something better than a pension.

My New Baby

My New Baby
Today, I decided to brave the chaotic market in search of a new power bank. The one I had been nursing along had finally given up the ghost a few days back, leaving me in the lurch when I needed it most.

Pushing my way through the dusty, bustling crowds, I finally made my way to my favorite vendor's stall. To my dismay, as expected, the price of power banks had doubled since my last visit. With a heavy heart, I shelled out the extra cash and headed home with my new purchase.

I had it charging all afternoon and was almost relieved when the power went out as dusk fell. While my siblings' phones blinked out one by one, I connected my phone to the newly charged power bank, and now, to my delight, I am beaming in smiles because my phone is charging, and I can continue using it as if nothing has changed amidst the darkness.

“Money dey for Nigeria plenty“

“Money dey for Nigeria plenty“
(You tell me after reading what kind of intelligence is this?)

For unknown reasons I stepped out of my apartment late that night, before I knew it, a conversation ensued between me and my night guard, who was a migrant from Mali, hear him talk:
"Oga, I nor be Hausa o, I come from Mali".
I had mistook him for one of our country men.
"Money dey for Nigeria plenty, the reason most of us dey here"?
I was taken aback at this, so I mentioned other countries like Ghana, Egypt, Cotdvoire, South Africa and many others.
"Oga, life easy for Nigeria pas all of them. Look Lagos money plenty well well".
He paused, to tell me the secret:
"Look that pure water nylon for floor, if you pick am, na money". He said pointing at a used pure water sachet on the floor.
" Every where, everything for Nigeria, na money". He said in excitement. I became speechless wondering how one could be surrounded by so much wealth and still be wallowing in lack.
Come to think of it, these guys migrate through thick and thin to Nigeria, not as expertriates, but as fetchers of water, security guards, petty traders and more. They travel back home with money on vacation and return back to Nigeria, while many of us cannot fend for ourselves, talk less of the shame we are afraid to face if we dare travel to our villages for vacation.
