Again, you have made a very terrible decision: The levy will be computed at $15,000 for every expatriate on director level and $10,000 for those on other levels. Interestingly, the handbook, in paragraph 8.11, specifies that the EEL will be based ‘mostly on the offshore earnings of expatriates working in Nigeria’. This suggests an ad valorem rate, which is different from the fixed amounts specified in the handbook.

The naira is losing value every day but the government blames the foreign exchange trader. The oil and gas managed by expatriates make 400 thousand barrels a day in the hands of the Nigerian management it passes 4500 barrels a day. The national electricity grid is the poorest in Africa. You can tell yourself all the fairy tales you want but in the end the truth is this . expatriates should be a resource to collaborate with and not to squeeze.

This doesn't feel democratic. It can backfire or be a disincentive for certain indispensable expatriate workers and therefore their critical contributions to our economy.

This government is clearly making it difficult to lure those foreigners it hopes to bring in to revamp the battered economy. How can an expatriate who obtained a visa and residence permit be charged again for being in the country?
