Teaching Your Child The Fear Of The Lord
The word fear means “a feeling of anxiety and agitation produced by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain e.t.c. This, however, is not the sense in which the scripture uses the word when it talks about the fear of the Lord. The context in which it is used in the bible implies reverence, awe and great respect. In essence, what the scripture is teaching is that we are to have a deep reverence and respect for the Lord. Literally, we are to be awed and humbled by His presence.
When we truly fear the Lord, we will lives in reverence for His name and His word. We will surrender our lives in reverence to Him and live to please Him in all we do. We should run away from sin and everything that can bring Him displeasure. We should nurture our young ones to love and serve Him. We will speak of His love to the lost and dying world with so much passion that they will see Him beckoning to them through our message.
In a nutshell, the fear of the Lord is a deep seated reverence for God that makes you want to please Him at all cost.
Not only adults are obligated to fear the Lord, the children too are. Hence, you are to teach your child to fear Him too. To do this, you must begin the following from early stage:
Pray for him/ her and pray with him/her
Introduce him/her to the scriptures
Tell and show him/her the way of truth
Take him/her to church and cultivate his/her interest in the things of God.
Preach the gospel of salvation to them
As you prayerfully embark on this great task, the Lord will graciously save and instill His fear in your child in Jesus name.
