Helpers of Destiny - Mark 2:1-12
God did not create any man who would not need the help of other men. Whether you are rich or poor, popular or not. To grow in life, and maintain good life, you need some help. Doesn?t it amaze you that a sick man; though being a medical doctor can hardly treat himself. A man sick of palsy needed the help of four men to get his healing from the Ultimate helper. Mark 2: 1-12.The Bible speaking of the ministry of Jesus Christ says ?How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.? Wait a minute! Did you read that? ? (Acts 10:38)...for God was with him...? It implies that Jesus would have failed if he didn?t get the help he required from God.
As important as help may be, not everyone gets help. I pray for you today dear reader that help will not be far from you in Jesus name. In the lives of many a Christian, help is scarce. Many do all that they do by themselves and on their own. They labour so hard but they only go as far as their labour could carry them. Let me tell you one truth dear friend. Hard-work is extremely important but it would be great misery if all your growth is determined by the extent of your labour. Labour alone has never prospered any man. Labour alone can never make a man amount to much. The Bible says ?...the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.? (Ecc 9:11)You can write this down: those who don?t find help don?t go far.
The question now is this: how can a man access his helper.
First, I must have you know that no man can help another man whom God has not helped. This is why some are so very close to help and then they never get help. There can?t be a better illustration of this than the life of the man by the pool of Bethesda. John 5:1-9. He had a family and a people; some of them are probably his siblings yet when Jesus asked him ?Do you want to be made whole?? he replied ?I have no man?. What he actually meant is that my relatives are all nonentity. He probably meant that my family does not care. He was probably beginning to think of himself as an orphan. Let?s face it. If you have people who can help and they don?t, isn?t it just normal to conclude that you have no people at all? That was what he did.
It was in this mess that help arose from the helper of the helpless himself. Jesus of Nazareth showed up for him. I pray for you today dear reader that when you need help the most the Almighty will arise for you. I remember the man by the name Mephibosheth (2 Sam: 9). King David had felt indebted to Jonathan his father and wanted desperately to bless him. But the challenges of life including his lameness had kept him away from the reach of men wallowing in obscurity in Lodebar. He had a waiting helper but he was not visible. David wanted desperately to help him but the forces of helplessness held him bound.
Dear reader, even when a man makes up his mind to help you if God does not enable his help he would be scarce to find. Thank God for Ziba. God used him to help the destiny of Mephiboshet. For this reason the Bible said ?Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth? (Ps 124:8). As you go out of your way seeking help this day please understand that there is only one place to look to for help and that is ?up?. Psalms 121:1-2 When you look up to God in prayer He compels men to do what they would ordinarily not do for you. They will offer help to you and still feel blessed for doing so. They will offer help to you and still feel honoured helping you. I bet you that is the kind of help that you need. It is my prayer for you as you begin in this new month, help of the helpless will be for you a very present help in the time of need.
