Tinubu Welcomes Google Global Team To Aso Rock

Tinubu Welcomes Google Global Team To Aso Rock
President Bola Tinubu has expressed the willingness of the Federal Government of Nigeria to support global tech giant, Google Incorporated, to create one million digital jobs in Nigeria.

The President gave the assurance at the State House, Friday evening during the visit of Google Global Vice President, Mr. Richard Gingras, to his office.

President Tinubu told the visiting Google executive that Nigeria had creative and talented young people who are ready and motivated to learn especially at this age of Artificial Intelligence, stressing that the tech giant has the capabilities and tools that the young people need to excel.

"I am glad that Google is ready to partner with us. You have answered our call on digital innovation and to help our youths. You are supporting our efforts to promote digital economy. We are ready to work with you on your commitment to create 1 million digital jobs in Nigeria.

"We will give you all the support you need to have a beneficial corporate responsibility. We have started our economic reforms, even though tortuous."

On Google's promotion of free speech, freedom of the press and democracy through its platforms, President Tinubu declared that it is in public interest that free speech and press freedom should not be impeded.

"It is in public interest to continue to defend free press and free speech. We are committed to supporting a free society," the President said.

In his address, the Google Vice President had earlier told President Tinubu that he was in Nigeria for West Africa Journalism Innovation Conference.

He said he had been inspired by the creativity and talent of young people in Nigeria who are embracing technology and digital tools to expand access to information and promote democracy.

Mr. Gingras told President Tinubu that his organisation has deep interest in Nigeria and stands ready to support the Federal Government.

He listed the many capabilities of Google to include areas of Artificial Intelligence and other digital innovations that are empowering young people to become digital entrepreneurs, adding that Google subsea cable, Equiano named after Nigerian slave abolitionist that will significantly impact future internet connectivity demands landed in Nigeria in April 2022.

He also promised that Google would help to secure Nigeria in the age of disinformation and fake news, saying that his organisation seeks to continue its partnership with the Nigerian government.

"Google has deep interest in Nigeria. We want to support the government's efforts to create 1 million digital jobs. We have all the tools and capabilities to make this happen. We will also help ro secure Nigeria and we have discussed that with your National Security Adviser.

"I came to Nigeria to learn. I am going back home very impressed with what I saw. You have very vibrant, creative and talented young people who are embracing innovation.

"We will continue to support your programmes to expand your digital economy," Mr. Gingras said.

He was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Adewolu Adene, Government and Public Affairs Manager for Google in West Africa.

Mbappe Turns Down Al Hilal Approach

Mbappe Turns Down Al Hilal Approach
Kylian Mbappe has dominated headlines over the last few weeks, and especially so in the last few days, since it emerged that Al Hilal had submitted a record-breaking €300m bid to Paris Saint-Germain for the 24-year-old.

Mbappe has been transfer-listed by PSG as a result of his unwillingness to sign a new contract. His current deal expires next summer, and the French champions are determined to not lose him for free.
PSG accepted Al Hilal’s offer, but Mbappe has rejected the contract offer from the Saudi Arabian side, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

It means that the situation goes back to square one, and PSG are left scrambling to sell their star asset this summer in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months’ time.

PSG believe that Mbappe’s rejection of Al Hilal’s offer furtherly enforces their belief that the Frenchman has already agreed a deal with Real Madrid to join them as a free agent next summer.

It remains to be seen how Mbappe’s situation plays out over the next few weeks. Real Madrid will be keeping a close eye on things, although they aren’t planning to enter negotiations with PSG anytime soon. #cool

LP Obi Not Planning 2027 Presidential Run

LP Obi Not Planning 2027 Presidential Run
PRESS RELEASE

July 10,2023

PETER OBI NEVER GRANTED ANY INTERVIEW ON PLANS TO BECOME PRESIDENT IN 2027

Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Post and some social media networks on an interview granted by His Excellency Peter Obi to Arise tv.

We want to quickly point out that this is the highest level of yellow journalism taken too far all in a bid to change the narrative as there was no time HEPO granted such a nebulous interview to Arise tv.

HEPO arrived Nigeria from an overseas trip just this weekend and for any reputable media organisation to publish such a fallacy and complete fabrication calls to question the kind of journalism some Nigerians are practicing.

For all avoidance of doubt, HEPO did not at anytime grant such an interview to any media organisation in Nigeria or outside the country. Please note!

I Want To Arrest My Father For Selling My Palm Oil

I Want To Arrest My Father For Selling My Palm Oil
am very very angry right now. I couldn't sleep last night. That is why I'm bringing this here this morning before I do something very bad. A father should be after the growth of his son and not after ruining him.

Please you guys should help me look into this matter. I understand that it was a matter of life and important concern.

I'm seriously struggling in the city to eck a living for myself and do the little I can for my family also. My father was a petty trader who hardly can provide adequate for the family. Some of us who come from a very poor background would understand this better. I mean coming from where absolutely nothing is kept for you. No support from the family and nothing, nothing and nothing. You are the one who die and same you would have to pour yourself water to come back to life. You, you and only you.

I buy fast consuming products and supply to people and make some gains from there. Sometimes I hawk the products. I was able to save up to N150k. Around May this year, I went to the village and bought some rubbers of palm oil and store them to sell around November/December and make gains.

Last week, I got a call that wind pulled off our house roof in the village. Since they are using small torchlight phone, I didn't get to see how serious the situation was. Even though I didn't have money, I sent N15k to help fix it. My father later called me and complained bitterly on why I sent just 15k, that according to the carpenter, that materials and workmanship would cost N65k. In my mind, I was just like, does this man even know how I survive here in the city?

For two nights, they didnt sleep in the house as the wind pulled off the rooof.

On Tuesday, I learnt my younger brother was being operated of Hernia. I know about the hernia but was under plan to raise money for it. And I knew there was no money to settle medical bills for operation. So I was shocked where they got the money to do operation.

As I traveled down yesterday to see them, dear Nairaland friends, all my rubbers of palm oil has been sold and the money spent on fixing the roof and paying for the medical bills for the hernia operation without my notice.

I am not taking this kindly with my father who engineered the whole thing and I want to arrest him to refund my money.

That is my life investment and it took me so much to raise the amount. Due to how things are now. I even wanted to sell two rubbers to invest back as the business is facing challenges now.

What should I do here to recover my money back? If I have another money, I would over look it but that is my life investment of my labour
