Every battle of life happens in the spiritual realms and then manifest in the physical, that is why the Bible said in (Ephesians 6:12) "“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” this goes a long way to explain that before you can see a physical effect, you must first battle it spiritually and your altar is your place of warfare, your place of reenforcement.
Just like in real life battles you need to service your weapons at all times that is how you should service your altar, with prayers, fasting, studying the word, and service to God so that whenever your are weak in battle or you are faced with a problem beyond your human understanding, your altar will be a source of strength.
One thing to note is that "God will forever remain God no matter what becomes of us but it is for our own good and his love for us that he tell us to walk in light"
