One good turn
Some time ago, I had a fetcher that my neighbors would frequently come by to borrow. I didn’t mind at all because I remembered how it felt when I first moved in and didn’t have everything I needed. I wanted to help, so I gladly let them use it. For weeks, I shared my fetcher without a second thought, feeling good about being helpful.
Eventually, though, the handle on my fetcher broke. I was a bit frustrated but reasoned I’d get it fixed soon enough. What surprised me was that, after it broke, my neighbors stopped coming around altogether. It felt strange; it was as if they’d forgotten about me. I let the fetcher sit for a few days and ended up borrowing from others to get by.
Then, about six days later, something unexpected happened. While I was at the well trying to draw water, a guy approached me. He filled his bucket and, when he was done, handed it to me. I was taken aback and told him it wasn’t mine, but he insisted I take it. “I got it for you,” he said with a smile. I was genuinely surprised by his kindness.
He then explained that he had noticed how I always shared my fetcher with others. He mentioned that when mine broke, no one checked on me to see if I needed help. It was one of those times someone had left me absolutely frozen and astonished with kindness.
I mean, it was just a fetcher but the thought and timing that accompanied it was too beautiful. You can spur people to good deeds even in your hood fellas!
