Lightning of Zeus Statue

Standing atop the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, this bronze statue of Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology, became a modern spectacle during a lightning storm.

In 1902, lightning struck the statue, causing damage to the thumb, the foot, and the cloak. What made this event particularly fascinating is the fact that the statue depicts Zeus holding a lightning bolt in his hand. It almost seemed as if Zeus himself called upon the forces of nature, emphasizing the awe-inspiring power associated with both mythology and the natural phenomenon of lightning.
