Cryptic Pregnancy
A cryptic pregnancy, also known as a stealth pregnancy or denied pregnancy, is a rare condition where a woman is unaware of her pregnancy until an advanced stage, often after 20 weeks of gestation.
Characteristics:
1. No noticeable symptoms or mild symptoms
2. No weight gain or minimal weight gain
3. No fetal movement felt
4. No visible signs of pregnancy, such as a growing belly
5. Normal menstrual cycles or light bleeding
6. Negative pregnancy tests (home or medical)
Causes:
1. Hormonal imbalance
2. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
3. Obesity
4. Previous history of cryptic pregnancy
5. Denial or psychological factors
Complications:
1. Delayed prenatal care
2. Increased risk of stillbirth
3. Higher risk of cesarean delivery
4. Lower birth weight
5. Postpartum depression
