TOPIC:  THE PLAGUE OF SELF-CENTREDNESS

SCRIPTURE: You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 
2 Timothy 3:1-2 (NLT).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Selfishness is characterized by people loving only themselves and their money. 

The plague of selfishness or self-centeredness has been identified to be a major hindrance to the love life. We live in a world that is plagued with selfishness and self-centeredness. 
2 Timothy 3:1-2 says,
1. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy 
(KJV).

So, don't be surprised when you find yourself in an environment, association or group where no one cares about you. In most relationships these days, people don’t care about others, but about themselves. We live in a world that is filled with self-absorbed people. 

Let me relate a very funny story to you. Many years ago, I asked a young man a question, “What kind of woman would you like to marry?”
He said, “I don't like those selfish kinds of women. I mean those kinds of women who always demand attention, who always want you to do things for them only.” 
Then I asked him again, “Then what kind of woman would you like for a wife?”
He said, “I like the kind of woman that will pet me and baby me.”
I was shocked because it looked as if he didn’t remember what he told me earlier about the kind of woman he didn’t like for a wife.
That was a true definition of selfishness. The young man did not want a wife whom he would pet; rather, he wanted a wife that would pet him. It does not work like that. 
You must understand that self-centeredness is the root of many problems in this world. Self-centeredness is behind kidnapping, armed robbery, embezzlement and corruption, etc. It is self-centeredness when a government officer embezzles the money that is meant to develop a whole community or state.
Beloved, my counsel is: make up your mind to live a selfless and impactful life. 
Remember this:  Selfishness is characterized by people loving only themselves and their money.
 
ASSIGNMENT:
1. Avoid the trap and plague of selfishness.
2. Ask God for the grace to be selfless in all your do.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You deliver me from selfishness or self-centeredness. I receive the grace to live a selfless and impactful life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: VISION - A KEY TO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

SCRIPTURE: But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A sense of purpose or vision is key to character development.

It is an established fact that your character is key to your destiny. To have a solid destiny, you must possess a quality and positive character.
One thing to know about character is that Christian character development is a process.

Ephesians 4:15 says,
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Please take note of the phrase,
… may grow up into him…

So, Christian character development is a growth process.

Character development is not a destination; it is an adventure. We develop Christian character through a growth process.

Now, one factor that facilitates Christian character development is a sense of vision and purpose for Godly character.

Daniel 1:8 says,

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

A sense of purpose or vision is key to character development.

A sense of vision and purpose is very important in character development because it takes knowing exactly the kind of person you want to be in life to develop godly character.

The question I would like to ask is: what kind of person do you want to be in life? What kind of life do you want to live? Who are the role models of the kind of life you admire? A sense of purpose and vision is very important in the development of godly character.

Beloved, please put a godly vision ahead of you so you can develop a godly character.

Remember this: A sense of purpose or vision is key to character development.

1. Possess a sense of vision for quality character.
2. Ask God for the grace to live right.

TOPIC: CONNECTING GLORY AND DIRECTION BY WAITING ON GOD

SCRIPTURE: As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Acts 13:2

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you wait on God, you are connected to divine direction.

Spending time with God has a lot of benefits for the Christian. You don’t lose when you wait on God by spending time with Him

In our study today, we shall consider two benefits of waiting on the LORD.

i. Waiting on the Lord is key to divine direction.
When you wait on God, you are connected to divine direction.

Maybe you are at a point in life where you have done all you knew how to do. May be you are that point when you don't know what next to do. What to do is to wait on God for direction.

In Acts 13:2, as the disciples waited on the Lord and prayed, the Holy Ghost said, “Separate unto me Barnabas and Saul for the work I have called them.”
You get direction and clarity when you wait on God. God shows you what to do and how to do it, when you wait on Him.
ii. Waiting on the Lord is key to the Glory.
The Lord deposits his Glory on us when we hang around Him. When you have stayed with God for a long time, by the time you step out, people would begin to notice a different dimension of glory on your life. This was what happened to Moses in Exodus 34:29.
And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

Before this time, Moses had camped with God for 40 days. He stayed in the Presence of God to the point that a portion of God’s Glory left God and rested on him.
Beloved, when you stay with God, you contact His glory.
Remember this: When you wait on God, you are connected to divine direction.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Be determined to access divine direction by waiting on God and spending time in His Presence.
2. Desire for a deposit of His righteousness and glory as you spend time in His Presence.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to tarry with You. I ask that you grant me access to divine direction and a deposit of Your Glory upon my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name

TOPIC: A SENSE OF URGENCY – A KEY TO DIVINE ENCOUNTERS

SCRIPTURE: 11 And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the seer here?
12 And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place:
1 Samuel 9:11-12.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you are looking for an encounter with God, you must possess a sense of urgency.

The attitude of urgency is key to maximizing life and destiny. It is evident throughout Scripture that God’s dealings with His people are always done with a sense of urgency. It takes the attitude of urgency to achieve tangible results in life.

In our study today, we shall look at two examples of God’s dealings with His people in this way.

i. Exodus from the land of captivity.

The Scripture reveals that the night the children of Israel were to leave the land of Egypt, the land of captivity, they were charged to move with urgency. They were expected to carry their staff in their hand, their loins girded, and their shoes on their feet as they ate the Passover hastily. (Exodus 12:10-12).

The truth is, your captivity may not break until you possess a sense of urgency. Lackadaisical attitude is one reason why people remain in bondage and captivity.

ii. Saul's encounter with the prophet Samuel.
How did Saul encounter prophet Samuel?

1 Samuel 9:11-12 says,
11 And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the seer here?

12 And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place:

Please take note of the sentence, make haste now, for he came to day to the city;
This means, if you are looking for an encounter with God, you must possess a sense of urgency. A sense of urgency is needed for the encounter of destiny. Encounter with God is not something you go about casually. If you are trusting God for an encounter, there is a need to make haste.

The sense of urgency is what characterized my life for many years. Whenever I know I need something, I tackle it with a sense of urgency.

Beloved, in the same way, make up your mind to approach life with a sense of urgency.

Remember this: If you are looking for an encounter with God, you must possess a sense of urgency.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Refuse to be comfortable with any situation of bondage or captivity in your life; approach your deliverance and victory with a sense of urgency.

2. Be desperate for divine encounter with a sense of urgency like Jacob did in Genesis 32.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You baptize me with a sense of urgency. Help me never to walk through life with lackadaisical attitude, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DATE: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2024

TOPIC: DETHRONEMENT BY NEGATIVE CHARACTER

SCRIPTURE: 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isaiah 14:12-14.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: For instance, Lucifer lost his place of authority and eminence by the bankruptcy of character.

The Scripture reveals that God’s purpose for His Children is to be positioned in places of authority. We are a city positioned on a hill, and so we cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14-16).

However, one enemy of authority and influence is bankruptcy of character. For instance, Lucifer lost his place of authority and eminence by the bankruptcy of character.

In Ezekiel 28:12-16, one can see that Lucifer was the highest ranking being ever to be created by God, apart from man. One third of the angels in heaven were under his command. He was created as the cover of the Throne of God. He was the guardian, the ADC, as well as the commander of the worship company.

It looks to me like the angels had three groups: the war group under the command of Angel Michael, the wisdom and message group under Angel Gabriel and then, the worship and music group under Lucifer, the son of the morning.

But Lucifer was dethroned from heaven by the bankruptcy of character, and became a pauper in hell. Now, everyone can bind the devil; even a little child can bind and cast him out because of his lack of character.

Beloved, where humility ends, there authority dies. Lucifer was dethroned because of pride. He wanted to be like the Most-High God.
The major challenge of lucifer was his total bankruptcy of humility.
Pride is the enemy of power. Arrogance will suffocate authority.
Lucifer couldn’t sustain authority because of his pride. He couldn’t remain on top because solid character was lacking in his life.

Beloved, I decree that character bankruptcy will not deprive you of authority in life, in Jesus’ Name. Receive the grace to be humble in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: For instance, Lucifer lost his place of authority and eminence by the bankruptcy of character.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Don’t allow negative character make you lose your place of authority and eminence in life.

2. Humble yourself before God and people so you can go up in life.

PRAYER: Father, I receive the grace to remain humble always. Deliver me from falling into the temptation of arrogance and pride, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: THE PATHWAYS OF CHARACTER

SCRIPTURE: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:32.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Where the flesh is out of control, life is out of order.

In life, one established fact is that character is critical to destiny. People of quality (solid) character are people of quality (solid) destiny; and people of zero character are also people of zero destiny.

Now, if character is key to destiny fulfilment, it is important to understand the pathways to developing quality character so we can fulfil destiny.

We shall be looking at two of these pathways in our study today.

i. The lifestyle of truth.
The way of truth is the way of quality and positive character.

One of the things that are very scarce in our generation is the truth. Today, we see children lying to their parents to get more pocket money in school; wives lie to get money from their husbands, etc. There is a shortage of truth in our days.

Until we know that the truth is key to walking in liberty, we will continue to walk in deception.

John 8:32 says,
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

And deception is just a step away from destruction.

ii. The control of the flesh or self.
Another pathway to developing character is the control of the flesh. That is self-control.

Luke 9:23 says,
…If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Where the flesh is out of control, life is out of order. The man who is an alcoholic is unable to control his appetite for alcohol, so he lives a life of disorder. Esau could not control his craving for food, so he put his destiny out of order.

The reason why some people cannot do the right things they want to do is that they are under the control of the flesh. Their spirit is willing but their flesh is weak.

Beloved, make up your mind to follow the way of truth and put your flesh under subjection to the Spirit. Only then shall you live right and fulfil destiny.

Remember this: Where the flesh is out of control, life is out of order.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Ask God for the grace never to fall into the temptation of lies and falsehood.

2. Make up your mind to deny yourself daily. Refuse to come under the control of the flesh.

PRAYER: Father, I ask that You deliver me from the lifestyle of falsehood and fake living. I receive the grace to have my flesh under the subjection of the Holy Spirit, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: SOLUTION OUT OF PROBLEM

SCRIPTURE: And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Job 42:10

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The area where the enemy has always tried to challenge you is the area where God will use you to touch lives.

Many years ago, I spoke with a man, who at that time, had a very serious marital crisis. The crisis was so intense that the marriage was almost at the verge of breaking up.

In the midst of this disturbing marital crisis, someone called him and told him, “Sir, my wife and I have been having marital crisis. Please, I want you to counsel us.”

This man who was asked to give counsel looked at himself and said, “What counsel do I have to give anyone? I have a very serious marital challenge. What will I tell this man and his wife?”

As he pondered what to do, the Lord told him, “Speak to that man and his wife. You have what it takes to solve their problem.” So, he went ahead and counselled them, and their marital crisis was resolved.

Then he went to God and began to cry, “O Lord, what about me? What about my own marriage? I spoke to these people and their marital crisis has been resolved, what about me?”

Beloved, remember that this was the same thing Job did. Even though he was in captivity, he decided to pray for his friends. And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends (Job 42:10).

What can we learn from this? The area where the enemy has always tried to challenge you is the area where God will use you to touch lives. Out of your problems will come your solutions, not just for yourself, but for your generation. Out of your questions will come answers for yourself and others.

My counsel to you is: when you are challenged, look for the solution your challenge is meant to offer both you and your world.

The counsel he gave to the couple became the seed for the resolution of his own marital challenge.

Remember this: The area where the enemy has always tried to challenge you is the area where God will use you to touch lives.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Refuse to be discouraged when you are challenged.

2. Always look beyond your challenges. Look out for the solution your challenges are meant to offer, both to your own life and to your generation.

PRAYER: Lord I receive the grace to see solutions out of the challenges of life. Help me like Job, to intercede for those in need, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: CLEARER VISION FOR HIGHER FLIGHT

SCRIPTURE: Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
Job 39:27-29.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: the clearer your vision, the higher your flight.
It is common knowledge that the eagle, without doubt, is the king of birds. The eagle is a symbol of power, royalty, strength, and speed in many cultures and nations of the earth. This is one reason why the eagle is on the coat of arms of most powerful nations of the earth.

The eagle flies 10,000 feet above sea level and sees it prey from afar. The eagle can see almost 120 miles away from 10,000 feet above sea level. While others see in meters, the eagle sees in miles. It has a very incredible sight and alarming speed.
The golden eagle flies at 129 kilometres per hour. That is the speed of an average car.
One fact the eagle demonstrates is: to see far is to fly fast; and to see clear is to fly high. This means, the clearer your vision, the higher your flight. The farther your vision, the faster your flight. The eagle has concentration of pigment cells in the retina. This is about eight times the concentration of cells on the retina of a man’s eyes.
Take note of the following key facts from the eagle as far as vision is concerned:
i. Vision affects acceleration.
Vision affects acceleration. Vision affects speed.
ii. Vision affects elevation.
Your vision affects the height of your existence in life. Your vision affects how high you can go in life.
iii. Vision affects possession.
The eagle sees far. It can see its prey from afar. So, your vision affects your possession and provision in life.
iv. Vision affects destination.
Your destination is not clear until your vision is there. That is why blind people find it hard to move.
v. Vision impacts distinction.
One of the things that make a person stand out in life is their eye sight. When someone is totally blind, there is a way in which it negatively affects the whole of their appearance. So, vision makes one stand out.
Beloved, you need vision to stand out in life.
The question for you is: what is your vision in life? What are you living for? Please, ensure you have a clear vision for living so you can fly high in life.
Remember this: the clearer your vision, the higher your flight.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Refuse to walk through life in darkness, confusion, stagnation and frustration for lack of vision.
2. Ask God to give you your vision for living.
3. Make up your mind to live for something good, something great and positively impactful.
PRAYER: Lord, help me never to be blind to destiny. Give me a solid vision for a purposeful and productive life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: THE BENEFITS OF CAMPING WITH GOD

SCRIPTURE: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you camp with God, you don’t only renew strength; you also renew your health.

It has been established that who you hang with determines what hangs on you. Association brings assimilation.

When you associate with someone, after a while, you begin to look like them, talk like them or act like them. That is why those who spend time with God assimilate the Character and Nature of God.

When you camp or spend time with God, you acquire the Nature and Character of God, and when you acquire the Nature of God, you stand out in life. Those who camp or spend time with God stand out from the rest of the people.

Now, what are the benefits of waiting on God?

i. Waiting on the Lord is key to supernatural strength.

They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31).
You gain strength when you wait on the Lord. You become stronger spiritually when you hang around God. You are not permitted to be a victim of weakness if you wait on the Lord.

There is a song we usually sing many years ago. The song says,
We have come to thee O Lord (2x).

We have come to the Father.
We have come to renew strength.

When you come to God, you move from one level of spiritual strength to another.

So, waiting on the lord is key to supernatural strength.

ii. Waiting on the lord is key to divine health.

Waiting on the Lord is vital to the renewal of your health. To wait on the Lord is like going to the mechanic workshop to have your car serviced. Just as we go to the mechanic workshop to service our car by removing stale or bad engine oil, when you go to God, He services your life by removing sickness, afflictions and diseases.

Look at what happened to Moses after he had stayed with God for a long time.

Deuteronomy 34:7 says,
And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

As a result of staying with God, his eyes were not dim, and his natural force was not abated. He tarried with God and every sickness or disease was cleaned out of his system.

Beloved, when you camp with God, you don’t only renew strength; you also renew your health.

Remember this: When you camp with God, you don’t only renew strength; you also renew your health.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Make up your mind to spend time with God at the place of prayer.

2. Remain with God until you renew your strength and revitalize your health.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace and discipline to camp with You. Deliver me from the attitude of laziness and indiscipline to prayer, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
