THE EVIL THAT MEN DO
As the saying goes,โ the evil that men does lives within usโ.
My name is Amanda, I live with my stepmother and father in the mid-eastern part of Nigeria. I lost my mom while at birth; I was told she died while I was being put to bed. It wasnโt and hasnโt been for my siblings and I because we had to fend for ourselves and eat hand to mouth.
We even stopped going to school ,we couldnโt proceed to the university , we were forced to hawk for our wicked stepmother, she ensured we toiled day and night to sell all our wards, and then fed us with little or no food; at times we go to bed in hungry, or left us with no option but to eat leftovers or crumbs.
She made us live in abject poverty whereas our father lavished and squandered his money on things that brought him no value. She ensured our father bought clothes and all essentials for her Children while we were left with no option but to wear tattered clothing.
One faithful morning, just as we were about to go hawking, my stepmother called on me and asked her about her missing money and jewelries.
I told her โma I didnโt steal your jewelryโโ
She said I was lying
It was later she found out that it was her daughter that stole it from her.
Few years passed on , I was later called back to school because of my academic history of getting good grades ,my secondary school offered to train me in the university and take care of my tuition fees and I was so delighted..
I lost my father after a brief illness, I and my siblings left the house to cater and fend for ourselves and she was left with her kids after finding out my father incured debts to manage their extravagant lifestyle.
Later on
I graduated with a first class and one of my siblings;a second class upper,I studied law and she studied mass communication
We later went to the village to check on them
And we met our step siblings lingering on the street as a result of taking hard drugs .
