HOW does a mechanical HANDWATCH work?

HOW does a mechanical HANDWATCH work?
A traditional mechanical wristwatch typically consists of the following components:

1. Power Source: Mechanical watches are powered by a mainspring, a tightly wound coil of metal. This spring stores energy to drive the watch.

2. Gear Train: The mainspring's energy is transmitted through a series of gears known as the gear train. These gears work together to regulate the release of energy.

3. Escapement Mechanism: The escapement is a crucial component that regulates the release of energy from the mainspring. It allows the gear train to move in a controlled manner, preventing the watch from unwinding too quickly.

4. Balance Wheel: The balance wheel is a wheel that oscillates back and forth. It's connected to the escapement and acts as a timekeeping element, dividing time into equal parts.

5. Hairspring: The hairspring is a fine spring that is coiled around the balance wheel. It controls the oscillation of the balance wheel and helps regulate the watch's accuracy.

6. Hands and Dial: The hands on the watch, indicating hours, minutes, and sometimes seconds, are attached to the movement. The dial provides a visual reference for reading the time.

7. Crown: The crown is a small knob on the side of the watch that is used to set the time and, in some cases, wind the mainspring.

In a mechanical watch, the energy stored in the mainspring is released in controlled increments, powering the movement of the gears and hands. The regulated release of energy by the escapement, balance wheel, and hairspring ensures accurate timekeeping.

It's worth noting that there are also quartz watches, which use a battery to send electrical currents through a quartz crystal to keep time. These operate on different principles than mechanical watches.

Lightning of Zeus Statue

Lightning of Zeus Statue
Standing atop the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, this bronze statue of Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology, became a modern spectacle during a lightning storm.

In 1902, lightning struck the statue, causing damage to the thumb, the foot, and the cloak. What made this event particularly fascinating is the fact that the statue depicts Zeus holding a lightning bolt in his hand. It almost seemed as if Zeus himself called upon the forces of nature, emphasizing the awe-inspiring power associated with both mythology and the natural phenomenon of lightning.

The Season is Near

In the midst of the cool harmattan breeze that wrapped our environment in a cozy embrace, I found myself eagerly awaiting Christmas. The air was filled with a unique blend of holiday excitement and the refreshing chill that only the harmattan season brings.
Christmas, my favorite time of the year, was even more nostalgic with the enchanting touch of the harmattan.

Yesterday, I was set for a karaoke service at Church which I had took time to prepare ahead of it. Days were spent creating the perfect gift list for my pair as we had to present gifts to each other. Finally, it arrived, the gifts were ready, packaged in an adorable bag, I included a warm letter to round it off.

Venturing into the heart of the town, I began my journey to church about 20 minutes walk. My heart leapt continuously in excitement with the thought of receiving a gift from my pair. Immediately, I arrived, my pair handed over her gift to me with a friendly smile — it was a watch, she stated she would be leaving for an interview. It was nothing close to my expectation but the joy of the season overwhelmed my heart as I received the gift.

Finally I presented my gift to the owner and vanished instantly to resume projecting. As she read the heartfelt message inside, her eyes lit up, and in that moment, my simple gesture brought a dose of Christmas magic to someone who needed it. She couldn't contain her joy and rushed to hug me, such a genuine, warm and grateful hug could only leave me gladdened.
My small act of kindness had a ripple effect, inspiring others who read the letter, to share in the joy of the season.

Surrounded by friends and family I had found in Church, I felt the true magic of Christmas – a perfect blend of love, kindness, and the enchanting embrace of the harmattan.
