The weight of the Glass

My psychology professor lectured to a packed auditorium of students while moving around on a stage and explaining stress management concepts. Everyone assumed they would be asked the standard "glass half empty or glass half full" question as she raised a glass of water. Rather, the professor asked, "How heavy is this glass of water I'm holding?" while grinning.

Students shouted out answers ranging from eight ounces to a couple pounds.

In response, she said, "I don't think it matters how heavy this glass is in its entirety. Everything hinges on how long I hold it. It's fairly light if I hold it for a minute or two. Its weight can give me a slight arm soreness if I hold it for an entire hour. My arm will probably cramp up and feel totally numb and paralysed if I hold it for a day straight, which will force me to let go of the glass. The glass's weight remains constant in each instance, yet it seems heavier to me the longer I hold it.

She went on, "Your stresses and worries in life are very much like this glass of water," to which the students shook their heads in agreement. Nothing happens when you consider them for a time. You start to feel a little achy as you continue to think about them. If you think about them all day, you'll become utterly numb and immobile, unable to move until you let them go.

1 Tom Tom for 20 naira

1 Tom Tom for 20 naira
In this country, I have witnessed so many things that disgust me. It's always just 'click ignore' for me. I can't ignore this, though. I just made a purchase of N4,980 at a corner store, and my change was N20. The woman inquired if I could buy anything for N20 and stated she didn't have any N20 to give me. "Give me, sweetie," I say. She also handed me one Tom Tom. She stated that the 1 Tom Tom was N20 when I enquired. I thought, What? Tom Tom, that's three for N10. What year is it, she asks? Please let me know how much one Tom Tom costs, my people.

I want to stop this stigma people give to Ewedu. It is sickening. Ewedu is called Molokhia in Egypt. There are few greens more nutritional.
Nutritionally, molokhia/Ewedu/jute has three times the calcium and phosphorus as kale, and four times the amount of riboflavin. It also provides 70% of the RDA value for Vitamin C, 25% of the RDA of Vitamin A, as well as potassium, calcium and magnesium–actually more than 32 vitamins in all. Aside from aiding digestion, molokhia is also purported to boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, improve bone health, as well as reduce bloating and insomnia. If you check Jumia you'd find jute tea that's excellent for anyone managing hypertension.

Next time you want to label a Yourba person a consumer of Ewedu, remember that a former world power and ancient civilization regarded it as fit for royals.
