Rickety Journey

Rickety Journey
Stylish in my well-ironed clothes, I boarded the bus, eager to get to my destination quickly. But little did I know, my journey was about to get twisted.

When the bus was full, it was time to leave, but it wouldn't start. I couldn't believe it. We were all stranded! The driver tried everything, but nothing seemed to work.
To my dismay, the driver asked us to help push the bus! I couldn't contain my disappointment. Me, in my nice clothes, pushing an old bus? It was almost too much to bear.

But, I didn't have a choice. I joined the others, and together we started pushing. I was worried about getting dirty and sweaty, but I knew I had to help.

As we pushed, the vehicle suddenly coughed back to life. We all cheered, and immediately, I jumped in.
Even though my fellow girls shyed away from pushing the bus, I didn't though I grudged initially.

The madman saga

I was walking home from school on a Friday afternoon, lost in thought as I walked through the my favourite short cut. Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind me. At first, I thought nothing of it, assuming it was just another passerby. But as the footsteps grew louder and closer, I began to panick.
I quickened my pace, but the footsteps kept on coming. I could sense a presence closing in behind me. And gathered courage and turned behind to look and That's when I saw him - the madman, he was very fierce
and he was a terror in our area.
Panic set in as he started to gain on me. I started running but no matter how fast I ran, the madman kept closing in.

Just when I thought all was lost, I spotted a narrow path on my left. Without hesitation, I quickly took it, hoping to lose my pursuer. I emerged on the other side, gasping for breath, and didn't stop running until I reached the front of my door.

I locked the door behind me and leaned against it, trying to process the terrifying encounter. It was a terrible experience that left me scared, but I'm grateful to have escaped unharmed.

Imperfect beauty

Imperfect beauty
A beautiful short story of a Pearl
A man found a beautiful pearl. It was very beautiful but a small flaw in it. The man thought, if he can remove the flaw, it would be the biggest and most beautiful pearl ever in his possession. He peeled off a layer to correct the flaw. The flaw was still there. He peeled off another layer, the flaw was still there. He kept on peeling off the layers until all the layers were gone. Now there was no flaw, but there was no pearl too.
In this life, no one is PERFECT. Each person you meet would have some FLAW or the other. You will end up losing the person completely while trying to correct his/her flaws. So try to learn by accepting people with their flaws and you will be surrounded by beautiful people all around you.
Imperfection is beautiful too !

Addicted To Gambling

Addicted To Gambling
There is this young guy I met when I entered the university newly, he was in his final year, and he was the one who assisted me in looking for a house to rent. I entered his room once and saw about two to three awards of honor from different organizations, also saw that he was the president of his department’s association. I was thrilled by this kind of achievement by such a young guy, he must have been in his early 20s by then. He appeared to be very brilliant, I gave him a good rating.

His house was opposite my house, so I see him frequently. He came to me to borrow him some money, just one week after we met and according to him, he said he wants to apply for a job online and needs fund to process his CV and other requirements, he said the job was very important to him and that day was the deadline. The money I had was for my school clearance, I told him that and he promised to pay back in two days, so I borrowed him the money.

Two days passed and he didn’t contact me to pay my money, I contacted him on the third day and he gave excuses, I got money somewhere else and did the clearance. Days turned to weeks, and weeks to months, the guy started avoiding me and I rarely see him, he will even pretend not to see me at times and I just gave up on the money. I wondered why a guy like him will turn out to behave like that, after a gave him a good rating, and with the kind of awards that hung on his wall.

There came a time that the region I lived in had some problems in the electricity for months, so there was no power supply through out that period. I used to charge my phone at a betting shop that is not too far from my house, every day when I return from school. It will shock you to know, the same way it shocked me to know that the guy that was owing me was an addicted gambler. He was always there at the betting shop every time I go there to charge, gambling with all the funds he has, I heard people say that the guy would have been very rich because of his position in his department as the president, if not for his addicted gambling. Now it became clear to me why he hasn’t paid me back.

Some months later, I heard that the guy had committed suicide, he used the department’s funds to gamble and he lost the bet, rumors has it that it was millions of naira. No way he could have paid back such amount and resorted to ending his life. Gambling leads to depression, frustration and more miseries, and that is how we lost him.

Lost Hope for New Shoes

Lost Hope for New Shoes
I've been saving up for a new pair of shoes I saw two months ago, and I was so close to reaching my goal. Just last week, I only needed about 2,000 naira more to buy them. But then problem came.

My friend came over and borrowed my phone charger. I specifically told him to only use it in his house, but he didn't listen. He took the charger to a betting shop to charge his phone, and that's where the trouble started.

Someone in the shop swapped my charger with a fake one that doesn't work at all! Can you believe it? My friend was lucky they didn't steal his phone too. Maybe the thief took pity on him.

Because of my friend's carelessness, I had to use some of my savings to buy a new charger. I couldn't wait any longer, I needed it urgently. But now, I have to start saving all over again for my shoes. It's frustrating.

I'm still annoyed with my friend for not listening to me. If only he had followed my instructions, none of this would have happened. Now, I have to wait even longer to get my new shoes.

I'll be more careful about lending out my belongings, and I hope my friend learns to listen to instructions too.

Journey to Taraba

When I was about to leave for NYSC camp last year, my family and I prayed together. My dad gave me some advice and blessed me before I left. I was nervous but excited.

I took a bus to Abuja, where I would spend the night with a relative before continuing my journey to Taraba. But things didn't go as planned. The road was bad, and I had to cross a sea to get to my destination. I was scared because I had never done anything like that before.

When we got to the sea, I was really worried. I even called my Dad to tell him about it and he encouraged me to be brave. Our car drove onto a ship, and I got on too. Everyone around me was praying for a safe trip. I joined in, hoping everything would be okay.

Crossing the sea was a strange experience. Funny enough, I fell asleep inside the ship despite being afraid 😂

When we finally reached the other side, I thanked God for keeping us safe. I did my training for 2 weeks at the camp and the rest was history

Sophia’s Victory

There was a time when in one of the small villages deep in Tuscany hills lived a young girl called Sophia. Sophia was gifted and enthusiastic about football such that she practiced every other moment of her life and dreamt of making it to the top leagues.

One day, Sophia’s village team which was known as “Tuscan Tigers” reached the finals of the championship against their long-held rivals, “Siena Saints”. The entire village was excited as the big match came closer.

Sophia played with nerves on edge but nevertheless gave it all. During half-time, for instance, when the scoreline stood at 1-1, you could feel the tension.

In this regard, in second half there was a wonderful goal scored by Sophia meaning that Tuscan Tigers were leading 2-1. The crowd burst into wild cheering; however Siena Saints answered back equalizing to 2-2 scores.

In extra time therefore Maria’s teammate stunned everyone by scoring another fantastic goal making it 3-2 for Tuscan Tigers. The villagers went wild but Siena Saints would not give up.

At some point within that game’s last minutes Sophia made an incredible save denying her opponents what would have been an equalizer. The Tigresses held on to win 3-2 thereby becoming champions.

The whole village went mad with joy hugging each other while Sophia got swarmed by teammates and supporters. She had indeed led her team to victory thus proving herself as a true champion.

From then on,…

Storming my Parliament building

I remember the day like yesterday or just some few seconds ago, it all started as a normal day for me though not 100% normal for I had landed in Nairobi just the previous day for my Visa application. It was on a Tuesday June of this year, and I remember I'm my country we had started anti finance bill that ended up become an anti government protest.
I had never participate in any protest before and I wasn't planning to on this fatefully day,I had gone to town to try my luck on the Visa application,I met very many young and energetic youths chanting anti-government slogans,it was so hyped and fun that I found myself abandoning my main cause of the day,we match towards the CBD encouraging each other to go to Parliament where our members of Parliament were busy passing the same bill that we were on the street opposing.
The anti riot police we surely busy too in that day most if not all of us were all cover with water Cannons and the Air was full of teargas, gunshots every corner of the town could be heard but that never stopped us ,we were in the largest and strongest number possible most of didn't know each other but we made good right there, before even knowing it I found myself inside the Kenya's Parliament, dinning on the expensive buffet prepared specific for our law makers, I don't even know how we made it out alive cause some of us didn't see the next day,,,, I'll sure never forget that day

The waiting.

The waiting.
I lived with my aging mother, Ngozi.

My father had died when I was young, and my mother raised me alone, working tirelessly to make sure we had enough to get by. But as the years went by, life became increasingly difficult.

We had little to eat, and my dreams of escaping poverty seemed further out of reach.

One day, my mother’s friend Ifeoma visited, her arms filled with gifts.

"Ngozi, you should consider joining us," she urged my mother. "This is how I’ve managed to buy these things and secure a future for my children."

My mother’s eyes were filled with a mix of envy and desperation. "But what do they want in return?, Hope they won't come after my head someday" she asked, clearly apprehensive.

"No never, we don't do human Sacrifice"

"It's just a little rîtual" Ifeoma replied.

"A small price for such great rewards. You and Chukwudi can have everything you’ve ever dreamed of."

That night, I noticed my mother lying awake, clearly troubled. The next morning, she sat me down, her voice trembling.

"Chukwudi, there’s a way for us to escape this poverty. It involves joining a certain group that can make all our dreams come true."

I looked at her, sensing her desperation.

"What kind of group, Mama?"

"It is called the group of affluence," she admitted, tears welling in her eyes. "They require a little rîtual but not a human Sacrifice, but they promise riches and a secure future. I want you to have a better life, my son."

I was stunned. "Mama, this sounds dangerous. We don’t need their wealth if it comes at such a high cost."

My mother’s eyes were filled with sorrow. " Yes I understand but I doesn't, i just want to ensure you’re taken care of, even after I’m gone. Please, Chukwudi, consider it."

Reluctantly, driven by my love for my mother and the promise of a better life, I agreed. That night, we were led to a secluded location where the cult conducted its rituals. The air was thick with incense, and the atmosphere was heavy with foreboding.

Emeka, the cult leader, greeted us with a chilling smile. "Welcome, Chukwudi. Are you ready to make the sacrifice for wealth and fame?"

I nodded, though fear gripped my heart. "What do I have to do?"

Emeka’s smile widened. "The final sacrifice requires the head of someone you love dearly. Your mother's head, she must be buried alive."

I recoiled in horror. "No! I can’t do that!"

Emeka's eyes hardened. "It's either her life or yours. Choose wisely."

"No I rather dîe than do such, I can't burry my mother alive, no I can't", I thundered.

"Shut up chukwudi, you will do it", my mother echoed from a distance.

"Mother, no I can't watch you buried alive, no", I said still in shock

My mother stepped forward, her face a mask of sorrow. "Chukwudi, if this is the price for your future, then so be it. I love you, my son."

I was dumbfounded.

My heart shattered, but I knew there was no other way out. With trembling hands and a heavy heart, I performed the ritual, sealing my fate and sacrificing my mother.

Now, years later, I sit alone in my luxurious mansion, surrounded by wealth and fame. Yet, none of it brings me joy. I reflect on the price I paid and the emptiness that wealth cannot fill.

I share my story with a heavy heart. "I thought I was securing a future for myself and my mother. But now, I realize I traded something priceless for fleeting riches. My mother isn’t here to enjoy this wealth with me, and every day, I’m haunted by the choice I made."

Tears stream down my face as I look at a picture of my mother.

"In the end, the riches mean nothing without the ones we love. I would give it all away to have my mother back. Let my story be a warning: no amount of wealth is worth losing the people who truly matter."

My tale serves as a stark reminder of the cost of desperation and the devastating consequences of sacrificing love for material gain.

Please share your thoughts on this story

Was the sacrifice worth it.

Can you offer yourself for the future of your child, just like ngozi did?

A lesson everyone needs to learn, no rîtual is little and no amount of wealth is worth losing those you love, all comes with a grievous consequences

Please share this story 🥺🙏

The Accident

The Accident
At about 5:00pm on Tuesday evening of August 6, 2024.
I witnessed an accident that happened in front of my office at Epe-Lagos.
A young lad and a lady was riding thier ladies bike motorcycle without helmet. Suddenly a school bus that was conveying church members to camp ran into them.
The victims were lying half dead...thier heads and some other part of their body was seriously dislocated...the Nigeria police and some local vigilante group were all present at the scene of the accident.
The yellow school bus drove off immediately and didn't stop due to fear of the security forces present at the scene.
After about an hour of rescuing the victims and taking them to clinic for first aid, the local vigilante group decided to chase the yellow school bus/why the Nigeria police left the scene to continue thier #50 checkpoint collection in another area.
Luckily, the vigilante group arrested the yellow school bus and brought it back to their yard.

Late Night

It was very lately in the evening, at around 7:00pm, I wanted to go and dispose my refuse bin with my elder sister. The waste dump site is a bush track that is always very dark at night, I thought of how needful a flashlight will be to us regarding the fact that it was late already. But she disagreed by saying that it might not be safe to go with any item, so that we won’t be robbed, we agreed and went without any flashlight.

My sister and I were having a discussion while walking down the waste dump site bush track, the moon was visible, so at least we could see ourselves and have a dim sight of things around us. We would have gone earlier to dispose the waste, but we were just too lazy to do that during the day time and we didn’t want to keep the waste any longer since it was already stinking.

We were almost close to the dump site when my sister spotted something moving right in front of us, upon close inspection, my sister realized it is a snake, a huge one, and it was moving towards us, I don’t know if the snake could not see us or something. My sister and I have this one thing in common; we hate the sight of snakes and cannot stand the sight of it.

Without any hesitation or further delay, we threw away the refuse, turned back and took to our heels, we ran like never before. I lost the left leg of my shoes while running, I could not stop to pick it up, a new shoe that is barely two weeks old. We ran till we were home and regretted going at the hour of the night to dispose refuse and without flashlight. I went back the next morning to look for my shoes but could not find it, hot tears boiled in my eyes. We never went to that road in the night again, and conscience of the fact that flashlight is needed wherever it is dark.

Be a Blessing

‘One morning, I woke up to find my neighbor's children drinking garri with salt in the compound.
They saw me and greeted me.
"Uncle good morning."
The last born shouted. "Uncle come and eat."
Playfully I walked to them. "What are you eating?"
"Gmax." The firstborn replied.
The rest of the children laughed.
"You mean Garri?"
"Uncle this is not garri, it is GMax. A kind of snack."
I chuckled. I told them to bring me a spoon let me join them. They raised their head and looked at me. They were shocked. The second born touched the last born and said. "Go and bring spoon for Uncle. Uncle wants to eat GMax snacks."
The boy ran in and returned with a spoon.
As I took a spoon, that was when I realized the Garri was not with Sugar but with salt. The children started laughing. I paused for a while and swallowed.
"Uncle, so you use to eat GMax snacks too." The last born asked. I nodded my head. I told him I am a professional in Gmax garri. Their mother who heard the laughter came out of the room and saw me.
She was smiling. "Uncle, you seff dey drink garri."
I told her I decided to join my younger brothers to eat.
She smiled. "Eya. Today wey we no get better food to cook except garri, na that time you come chop."
I chuckled. "Madam, God know say na my favourite food na im make He make me see am to chop today."
The last born laughed.
"Uncle like Gmax o."
I told her that after eating, I and my younger brothers(her children) would go out and buy noodles for breakfast. She laughed. The boys were excited. They began to rush the garri so that it would finish quickly.
When we were done drinking Garri, I took the boys out and I bought a carton of noodles for them.
When the mother saw her children carrying a carton into the house, she became emotional.
She said to me. "Uncle, this is the first time I will have anything in a carton in my house. See how God take bless her children." I handed her money that would be enough to cook two pots of soup for the week.
The first child held my hands and said.
"Uncle, Thank you."
He beckoned on the brothers to come say thank you.
The last child ran and embraced me. Then he said.
"Uncle... Uncle... In the afternoon you will come and eat GMax with us again ba. We would put sugar inside for you." I tried hard to hold back my tears.
Before you look down on that meal God has provided you to eat, remember that there are people who do not have up to that standard. Be grateful and contented.’

The evening caught a new friend

The evening caught a new friend
This evening, i was so weak to cook and even if i decided to cook, I knew that i would be buying foodstuffs which are costly now and my budget can't cover, so I decided to get already made food at a nearby restaurant.

As I headed back from the nearby restaurant with my hot takeout, the tasty smell filled the air. My stomach grumbled, and I couldn't wait to eat. The evening air felt nice, and I enjoyed the cool breeze against my skin as I walked. The security groups were already mounting roadblocks on the road sides and the road was busy as people made their way to their home, I guess.

Ahead of me, I saw a guy walking at a relaxed pace. He seemed to be lost in his thoughts, but he looked friendly. I kept my distance, respecting the space between us, as we both walked along the sidewalk as strangers.

Suddenly, I saw him take out a few 200 Naira notes. He looked surprised and said something I couldn't hear. Without really thinking, I called out, “Oh, it looks like you’re out of cash! Money really doesn’t mean much during times like this!”

To my surprise, he turned around and smiled. “You could say that!” he replied, laughing. His friendly tone made me feel more at ease. We started talking, and soon we were both walking along the same path, laughing and sharing stories.

I found out he was studying engineering at a nearby university and living just a few streets away from me. It was amazing to think we had lived so close without knowing each other.
I cannot say that we are friends already, but the next time we meet each other, it won't be as strangers.

A good deed

Some weeks ago, I was in a rush to deposit some money at the bank. I entered a tricycle and left for the bank. After we arrived and I quickly paid him off, I rushed inside the bank to secure a space and deposit as soon as possible.

It wasn't until I was inside the bank that I realized I had left my phone inside the tricycle. The situation was terrible but I remained calm and put the money in my account before anything else could go wrong.

After depositing the money, I stepped outside for some fresh air. I was devastated. I knew I'd never see my phone again, and the driver had probably sold it already.

But then a voice in my head kept telling me to try calling my phone. I thought it was pointless, but I decided to give it a try. I explained the situation to the bank's security guard, and he kindly lent me his phone.
To my surprise, someone picked up when I called my phone. It was the tricycle driver. He was worried because I hadn't called him all morning, and it was already 3 pm. He told me he'd come to the bank right away.

I couldn't believe it. I was so happy to have my phone back. The driver refused to take any money from me, but I insisted on buying him a drink. We exchanged numbers, and that was that. So wonderful to know that good men like that young man still exist.

MY LOVE SHOULD BE ENOUGH

MY LOVE SHOULD BE ENOUGH

Despite devoting the four years of my life in a relationship with promises, this is what I get from you Chris - your mum as an excuse. You should have told me straight that you won't be marrying me and we would have just worked as partners and follow everything lawfully

My years, my resources, my time, my commitment, my love, my devotion, my abilities, my emotion, my knowledge, my work, my drafts. Chris, my everything - Charity listed

What is my wrong? Did I wrong your mum? So my age has become a restriction to my love life and happiness? She kept questioning

You obviously deserve more and I'm not that. Please forgive me for being so hopeful all these years, I promise to leave and never disturb you again

I will pay you any amount Charity. I'm really sorry things turned out this way. My mum went through a lot and I can't watch her stay angry at me over this important decision. Please allow me to pay you - Christ emphasized

To heIl with your money Chris, to hell. So you think money is all I want? You think you can just pay me off and that's it? I don't want to have anything to do with your money or anything that comes from you please

I worked together to achieve this, at least you deserve something from me. Even if you don't want money, please don't leave your position

Chris, you must be very wicked. After everything? So you want me to still be in the company and watch you marry another woman?

I will be fine. Don't worry about me. I will definitely be fine. Thank you for everything. May you find happiness and may your mum be at peace haven separated us at last - Charity's last words as she stood and left

She moved her things and relocated to her friend's place where she stayed revamping herself

Charity was such a strong woman and God-fearing too that despite the hurt, she healed and reconnected with old friends. She moved on with her life, got a new job and started off. She was hot cake in the digital world as a tech guru so it was easier for her to get a good paying job

Within months she was back on tape, started building her life from scratch again

Chris got married after six months to the girl his mum introduced to him

He wasn't entirely happy but he stayed because of the mum

On Chris's wedding day, Charity decided to do something different. She wore the best dress and went to the beach and luck shone on her that same day

She met Wisdom, a business man who is based abroad. He came to Nigeria for a few business connections and was to leave the next weekend so he decided to give himself the best treat

Meeting Charity was like he had met a woman he had searched all along for

Charity never relented. She didn't allow her past experience to deprive her to feel love again or welcome a new person

Her outing that day ended up being the best decision of her life

They got talking, spent day after day together

It was as though they knew each other far before then but nothing of such, they just connected so well and agreed with so many things

Wisdom left back to the States, but couldn't stay away for long because whom he loves was far even though they spoke on the phone like every minute

Wisdom paid every bit on her head and returned in six months for the wedding

Charity's wedding was the talk of town. Chris and his mum heard it but couldn't attend due to guilt

After the wedding, Charity joined her husband back to the States for honeymoon and afterwards to his residence

Everything she had ever wanted was at her beck and call - the love, the wealth, the care, the respect, etc

She felt fulfilled and was happy she found love again

After a year, God visited her and she delivered of twins the next year - that's two years in marriage (two bouncing baby boys)

The news reached Nigeria and friends and family celebrated her victory

She was not just happy but she was fulfilled

What seemed like lost turned into her Joy and Plenty

Chris lived regretting and blaming his mum for making him lose a good woman.

Charity's life became a point of reference for women and mothers

Don't allow bitterness Crip into your heart and life because of a disappointment

Every disappointment they say works for our good

Instead of killing yourself over what won't be, focus your energy in rebranding yourself while believing in God; the best will definitely emerge at the right time.

If only parents knew

They walked in, these three young girls. 16, 18 and 19 respectively. Pretty smart and vibrant. Eloquent and brilliant in their spoken English. I was still attending to them when the youngest spoke up. I want to become a banker one day, I want to be in a building with bright lights, AC and beautiful designs. I want to be putting on suits while my shoe knocks on the floor. I raised my head and looked at her, I gave her a good smile and returned to what I was doing. The other two said they want to be a doctor and Architect.
"You all have valid dreams, if you work hard and with the help of your parents, you can be whatever you wish you be if you are determined." I encouraged them.
The excitement on their faces faded away and wondered what just happened.
"But we don't have parents, we are from orphanage homes." The youngest one said. It melt my heart. I couldn't continue what I was doing, I dropped the pen and faced them. "See, girls, you are amazing, you have survived what many couldn't, you are stronger than most people in the world because you are able to fight the battles of life from birth till this age and you are still strong, many of us with parent wouldn't have made it without our parents, but you did it without yours. Don't think you are alone in this world and don't think you don't have parents, the good people who brought you up and took care of you are your parents, people who took their time to make sure you are fine are your parents, love and appreciate them. As for your dreams, chase it, fight till the end and one day, you will realize you've achieved all you wished for." They nodded as I spoke to them and it restored back their bright faces.
The eldest one asked. "Are you from orphanage home too?" I smiled. "It doesn't matter my dear, what matters is that we are all human and we are all loved by God. "Thank you sir!" They chorused and they left when I was done with them. I watched them as they left. I felt a bit cold. I have never met a person from an orphanage home before, it was my first time. I know there are many stories behind their existence but for the ones who abandon their child and left, only if they know how grown their babies are now with the kind of dreams they are carrying.
This life sha.

A Day in the Life

Today was quite an adventure. I started my morning with a run through the park, where I met an old friend. We reminisced about school days and shared stories about our current lives. Later, I visited a new café that opened downtown. The ambiance was cozy, and the coffee was amazing, In the afternoon, I spent some time reading a novel I've been hooked on. By evening, I attended a local music concert, which was a fantastic way to unwind. All in all, it was a day well spent, full of pleasant surprises and good company.

Streetlight Standoff

Streetlight Standoff
It was already 7 pm after a long day, and I was eager to get home and grab a bite to eat. My friend, however, had other plans. He wanted to linger and catch up with a few people, but I was too tired to wait.

I urged my friend to hurry up, but he seemed oblivious to my growing impatience. Finally, I decided to take matters into my own hands and started strolling back home, telling my friend to catch up later. The cool evening air did little to alleviate my fatigue, and I found myself slowing down with each step.

I spotted an erected block under a streetlight and decided to take a break, sitting down to rest my weary legs. Little did I know, I had chosen the wrong spot.

At first, I thought I heard the distant barking of dogs, but as the sound grew louder, I realized they were heading straight for me. My heart began to race as I tried to locate the source of the noise, but the darkness seemed to swallow everything around me.

While I sat frozen in terror, two dogs emerged from the darkness, their eyes fixed on me. One was significantly larger than the other, and they both seemed to be charging towards me. I mustered every ounce of strength and courage to stand up, preparing to face the incoming threat.

But to my surprise, the dogs halted just a few feet away from me. They circled me twice, their eyes still fixed on me, before suddenly fleeing into the darkness. I stood there, frozen in shock, wondering what had just happened.

It wasn't until I heard my friend's voice calling out to me that I realized he had finally caught up. I turned to see him approaching me, a look of concern printed on his face. I wondered if he had seen the whole ordeal, but I didn't have the energy to ask.

I couldn't help but wonder who would let their dogs roam free like that. The encounter had left me shaken, and I was grateful to have escaped unscathed. I turned to my friend and nodded, and together we continued our walk home in silence.

Brighter Triumph: A youthful tomorrow

Brighter Triumph: A youthful tomorrow
I remember when I was a teenager, full of dreams and ambitions, ready to conquer the world. But then, life happened. Disappointments, failures, and setbacks started to pile up, and suddenly, my once bright future became a dark and uncertain path. I lost hope, and with it, my drive to keep going. I was just another youth lost in the sea of hopelessness and despair. But then, I met him. An old man with a weathered face and a gentle smile. He told me his story, how he had faced countless challenges and failures, but he never gave up. He said that life is all about perseverance and resilience. It's not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up. At that moment, I realized that hope is not something to be lost but something to be found within ourselves. We may stumble, we may fall, but we must never lose hope. It is the fuel that keeps us going, the light that guides us through the darkness. The old man became my inspiration, my guiding light. Every time I felt like giving up, I thought of him and his unwavering determination. He taught me that failure is not the end, but an opportunity to learn and grow. He showed me that no dream is too big and no obstacle too great if we have hope and resilience. Now, as I look at the present youth generation, I see the same struggles and doubts that I once had. But I also see potential, passion, and determination. I want to be an inspiration to them, just like the old man was to me. I want them to know that despite the challenges and uncertainties, they must never lose hope. They are the future, and their dreams are worth fighting for. So, my message to the present youth generation is this - never lose hope. Believe in yourself, and never give up on your dreams. You may face obstacles and failures, but remember, they are just temporary roadblocks on your journey to success. And one day, when you look back, you will see that they were the stepping stones that led you to greatness.

The Shear Road

The Shear Road
I remember when I was still preparing to write jamb, my parents enrolled me in a jamb class which starts by 4pm and ends by 6pm on a daily basis, excluding Sundays. Since it was not so far from home, I used to trek to the jamb and trek back home, and at times it will already be 7pm before I get home.

There is this narrow and long path my parents used to be very pissed off with, the path was known as ‘shear road’. The path was always very quiet with no houses around and you barely see people in it. My mother used to warn my siblings and I not to use that path, even in the day time, except we’re walking together with group of people. But as for the night, even if you’re walking with 50 people, my mother won’t still approve any of us to use the shear road.

Initially I used to say that she’s just stressing too much about the shear road and there might not be anything cruel related to it. She will counter by giving stories of the negative happenings she heard about the path, it will say it’s just mere stories and there is no evidence of who ever had been a victim of that lonely road. Even then, I had never for once used that path in the night, only in the day time, and with friends.

One day, I had a cartoon series, named ‘Dragon Ball Z’ that I really wanted to watch on startimes decoder, and the series was to start by 5:30pm and end by 6:30pm. I really wanted to watch that episode and wished I could skip the jamb class that day, but I couldn’t. I went for the class, and immediately it was 6pm, I packed my things and started running home to catch up with the remaining half of the already started episode. And then I came across the shear road, a very shortcut to get home faster, and without thinking I took the path. I was still running when two guys immediately stepped out of the bush and stood in front of me, it was too late for me to stop immediately and I ran into them and they felled to the ground, including me. I stood up before them, and this time, with adrenaline pumping through my veins, I ran like Flash, without looking back and with my school bag firmly held in my arms. I know I ran very fast, because my vision was blurred and the only thing I could hear was the faint shout from the two guys, “hey stop there, I will shoot you, oboy hey!”. I didn’t stop, I ran with all the strength I had till I got home.

I was so tired, sat down in front of the house and panting aggressively, checked myself to confirm if I was still intact, good thing the smart phone my parents bought for me was still in my pocket, the phone was barely a month old and I would have been dealt with if I had lost it. Whether those guys were truly with gun or not, I was home safely and vowed never to set my foot on that road. Entered the house and saw that the cartoon series I risked my life to run home and watch just ended as 6:30pm clocked, what a waste. I should have heed to my mother’s instruction about that road, good thing I’m safe and so are my properties. Till date, I have not told my parents about that incident, for the fear of being scolded for going against their orders.
