My neighbor was pleading with a girl over the phone. It was one of the funniest calls I'd ever heard. He kept saying things like, "Please don't do this to me. I can explain." Each time ge repeated this statement got me thrown into laughter so loud that he could hear it across the wall that separated his room from mine, and I couldn't help but think he sounded ridiculous.
Suddenly, I noticed the call end abruptly, and a moment later, my neighbor came out of his room, looking a bit unwell, he was looking sick already. He walked straight up to me and started spilling the story behind the phone call. I felt guilty for having laughed so loud then.
His girlfriend wanted to break up with him, and he was trying to explain his side of things. He told me, "If a girl makes you lose your way, then she’s not good for you." That was solid advice I thought, but it was still the same man who was begging some minutes ago.
I didn't know much about their relationship or what had led to this moment. All I could do was nod and listen as he vented, wondering how someone could go from pleading on the phone to standing in front of me already trying to make his soon to be ex look like the evil one with lots of flaws.
