Coconut Rice

Coconut Rice
My family people never cooked coconut rice while I was growing up; it was just never on our menu. I often heard rumors about people preparing it, and during visits to some aunts and uncles, I would sample their coconut rice. Though I didn’t fancy it very much, it wasn’t bad at all. It had a certain classiness about it, tasted nice, and felt a little simpler compared to the spiced richness of Jollof rice or the vegetables in fried rice.

Growing up, I never got around to asking my mum why she hadn’t cooked coconut rice for the family. But as I learned more about cooking, the curiosity to try making it myself grew stronger. So, I finally decided to experiment with coconut rice.

I went to the market, determined to gather everything I needed. I asked a friend to explain how to cook it for me, eager to get started on this dish
So I began to cook it, following the same procedures that she had given me on WhatsApp. I was cooking and cooking, and the aroma I was getting was similar to the one from coconut rice that I had tasted elsewhere. But then, after I took my pot off the heat, I went down the street and bought a bottle of drink to make the meal a bit more interesting.
As I took my first bite from the spoon, I hated rice for the first time in my life. I just hated rice in general because the cooking had gone so badly, and it even tasted bitter.
In this current economy, I had to waste the pot of rice, I can't get over the pain.

From a good angle

I was live at the music show. It was my first time visiting such an event, and many things happened during the show. It was quite interesting, but some people went home saddened and in a very bad mood. I’m very glad that I came home without becoming a victim of the circumstances that surround this kind of large gathering.

Well, it was a popular musician from the Southeast who hosted a concert that had a capacity of about 20,000 people, and he sold all the tickets. The turnout was massive. People filled the seats, and even those standing in the field showed just how enormous the crowd was. I was there, witnessing everything from a good position, and I saw a lot of things unfold.

I was just staring at the stage when I noticed someone suddenly seize another person's phone. I realized that the individual whose phone was taken didn’t even know who had grabbed it from behind him. He had been holding up his phone to capture video and take pictures of the performance when it was snatched away. The shock on his face was unexplainable and i pitied him, he stood there, puzzled, as people behind him acted uninterested to what just happened.

Nobody was willing to identify the pickpocket who had taken his phone.
I thought that was just it, but it happened several times throughout the nig

When I got home and went online, I was surprised to find that many others had tweeted about the same incident, sharing their own experiences and frustrations, the thing con tire me.
So friends, whenever you attend large gatherings especially the type that host mostly the youthful population, try and keep your from away from eyesight.

Exam obstacle

Exam obstacle
It was in my JSS1, that was in 2008/.. I had wanted to attend Nigeria military Secondary school unfortunately all flopped so i had to miss the whole of first term.. Second term i resumed at a private secondary school with assurance from my parents i would leave when am going to SS1..which later happened.
Second term, i resumed when the term has already gone far almost close to exam period.. Fast forward exams came, i had no friends yet, my notes where not up to date it was just me myself and i...I had to improvise.. I had just one option, exam malpractice (i was 10yrs). Back then we used pages from long notebook 'fuscap' as we called it then.
My first paper that term was agricultural science.. I took the Sunday night before Monday that the exam is scheduled for to draft my name, class date and all the necessary things written on the top right corner of a typical exam fuscap.. We used to have 20 objectives questions and 5 essays to answer 3. I would just number my fuscap from 1-20 and fill in alphabets from A-D as i deem fit.. Turn my fuscap and write out answers to four possible essay questions and go.
On the Monday of the exams i would enter exam hall with like four fuscap sheets and the one with answers amongst them.. Once exams starts i will pretend as if I am writing and thinking for like 45 minutes solving the objective part i would then boldly bring out the one with answers and strike lines on it like a canceled work, place it ontop of my desk and majestically write out the correct answers that are in them.. I did that for all my subjects then apart from maths and English without been caught for even a second.. After writing it, I always take excuse to use the restroom which I discard the one with answers..(nobody thought a 10yr old cold could pull that kind of a stunt).. I came out tops in my class that term.. I introduced myself to my classmates ina grand style. I remember a day I was nearly caught, I wanted to ease myself as usual but this day it didn't go as how others have been moving freely, that day my teacher was searching around my side and when I asked for permission, he declined. He continued searching, getting to my side, I nearly pissed on my uniform but God never and didn't disappoint me that day. Getting close to my desk, another teacher came in to inform him that the principal is calling him. That was how he left and this my school, once caught in malpractice, the student will be expelled. Nobody taught i would come out tops when i resumed barely weeks before exam...told my friends years later.. Them still no believe me till today..
I pulled that stunt just that term.

People with their troubles

People with their troubles
People can be very funny and deceiving. I was to travel today, so on reaching the park, I chose a bus and a seat where I wanted to sit during the journey.
To save my spot, I dropped my bag on the seat, my particular favorite position. Some minutes later, I stepped out to grab a few things that I needed for the travel. When I returned, I realized a man had taken my seat.

I confronted him and politely asked him to humbly find another seat, explaining that I had saved the seat with my bag. But he wouldn’t budge. He insisted he didn’t see any bag there and told me to find another place to sit.

I’m a person who doesn’t like violence, so I decided to just let it go and to collect my bag. I moved to another seat, thinking it was best to avoid conflict. Suddenly, the man interpreted my action as if I was being violent, as if I was blackmailing him to leave the seat, even though I had been respectful and had clearly left my bag there.

I smiled at him and said, “Feel free to enjoy the seat.” With that, I picked up my bag and made my way to a different spot. It was a strange encounter that only left me puzzled how a man of that age will argue something that petty.

The Christmas That Changed everything

The Christmas That Changed everything
Last year’s Christmas was somber for Maya, as her family traditions fell apart after the passing of her beloved grandmother. With no family gathering planned, Maya decided to spend the holiday alone in her small apartment, decorating a tiny tree and trying to make the best of her quiet, lonely Christmas Eve.

Everything changed when her elderly neighbor, Mrs. Carter, knocked on her door with a plate of cookies, offering company. They spent the evening sharing stories and laughter, lifting each other’s spirits. Maya realized that Christmas wasn’t about elaborate traditions but the small, meaningful connections that warm the heart.

Inspired by this encounter, Maya spent Christmas Day visiting neighbors who were also alone, sharing treats and listening to their stories. Though born out of loss, that Christmas became a celebration of kindness, healing, and community—reminding Maya that joy could be found in even the simplest acts of connection.
