A lot changed

A lot changed
I came home after some time at school and working outside. As I was returning, I enjoyed looking at my neighborhood. The palm trees were tall and green, just like I remembered.

Suddenly, I had a flashback. I thought about the days when we were all at home together. I didn't have to work back then. My big sister was still in university, and my little sister was in secondary school. We used to pick palm fruits after they were cut down from the trees. We had so much fun together.

How I laughed when I recall how cunny I was then just to ease my own workload. I always had a way to sweet talk my way at the slightest detection that I was lagging in picking speed.

Thinking about those times made me happy. But now, it felt different. My big sister is married, and my little sister is still in school. Things have changed a lot. I still love my family, but I miss the good old days when we were all together at home but that's growth for you.

Back then, it wasn't really like I enjoyed the stress of picking those fruits with my siblings, but remembering it, all I see is family love.

The war in-between

There’s this stubborn wall gecko that’s been giving me serious headache for a while now. Every time I try to find it and kill it, the thing disappears like it has special powers. I can’t count how many times I’ve turned my room upside down just trying to catch it, but it always hides before I can even get close.

Tonight, I had enough. I bought a sniper spray and decided I wasn’t going to let it win this time. So, I waited patiently for it to show up. Sure enough, as usual, it crawled out from its hiding place. I didn’t even think twice and I quickly sprayed the sniper on it, hoping that would be the end.

But this gecko was stubborn. Instead of going down, it ran back inside its hiding spot like nothing happened. I was frustrated, but I knew it wouldn’t stay hidden forever. After a few minutes, it came out again and this time, it ran straight under my bed. At that point, I was done with the whole hide-and-seek game.

I couldn’t sleep knowing that thing was under my bed, so I decided to scatter everything and face it one on one. I started moving things around, sweating as I tried to bring it out from under there. The bed, the chairs, everything got shifted. The room was a mess, but I wasn’t stopping until I got rid of it for good.

After what felt like ages of chasing it around the room, I finally cornered the annoying creature. I gave it what it deserved. No more hiding, no more sneaking around. This was the end of its reign of terror in my room.

Now, my room feels lighter, like I finally got rid of a heavy burden. I cleaned up the mess and lay down, satisfied that the annoying gecko was gone for good. I just hope no new one comes around to test me again.

A close shave with disaster

A close shave with disaster
I got off my bike and noticed the smell of roasted corn from the woman across the street by the Post Office. I could hear market women talking softly as they finished up for the day. In the background, a church choir was practicing for tomorrow’s service, with the pianist hitting the wrong notes but it didn’t bother me much as long as people were praising God. I also heard a child crying, and I knew it was just a typical African mom doing her thing.

I looked straight into the small barbershop that had seen better days, the mirrors were so dusty you could barely see your own reflection, But no wahala sha, the men wey dey there no come for clean mirror, na hair we come barb. I walked in, ready for my normal lowcut, no tapers. The air was thick with the smell of aftershave and one other foul smell (E sure me die say person mess for that shop true-to-god! But all man lock up), The evening sun was peeking through the tiny window, casting long shadows across the faded Nollywood posters on the wall, so faded you could barely make out actual faces. I could swear I saw Hitler on the catalog.

I sat down, looked the barber dead in the eye, and said, "Oga, I want make my carvings show!" He nodded like he knew exactly what I meant. So, I relaxed in the chair, feeling the cool metal of the clippers glide over my head. The sound of the buzzing clipper was almost soothing, like a lullaby. But then, something felt off. I opened one eye and caught a glimpse of the mirror... CHRIST!!!

I turned and stared at the barber, speechless. He was still nodding, as if he had just delivered the masterpiece of the century. "Oga na you talk say you want make your carving show na," he said with a grin, clearly proud of his work. And show they did-every single one, in all the wrong places! I opened my mouth to speak, he blow powder fuuuuu for my face so I swallowed powder and kept quiet immediately In my full life I have never felt so

The phone trick

The phone trick
Today, I woke up feeling tired, knowing I had a busy day ahead. After my morning exercise, my phone rang it was an old customer who regularly buys electronics from us. He asked to meet at the store, and I rushed there, hoping for a significant sale. We met, and he started checking through our products. After some time, he selected a few items, and we began the transaction process.

The total came out to be 80k, and I was excited, with a big sense of achievement for the day. I packaged the goods, and we exchanged pleasantries. However, just as he was about to leave, I asked him for what mode of payment he will be using, then he said he had left his phone on my table as "evidence" that he would return to make payment and claim his phone. I thought it was a strange request, but I didn't think much of it. I handed over the goods, expecting him to return soon, maybe as an old customer I should have some level trust.

But as the day went by, I realized I had been cheated. He never showed up, and his phone was switched off. I felt frustrated and disappointed. I had been tricked out of 80k. I couldn't believe I had trusted him.

Do you think he will return???

Death gaze👀

Death gaze👀
I usually hear people saying that girls are afraid of a lot of things. You know, I'm a total example of that, especially cockroach😂.
You could even say I fear cockroaches more than scorpions 'cos they have wings so ultimately, they become superior😔.
There was a day I went to ease myself casually, I had gotten used to the fact that cockroaches rarely attack except when attacked. I got into the bathroom and the side of my eye caught a figure at the top of the wall near the ceiling. Of course, I thought it to be cockroach since that's what I usually see on the wall.
I calmly eased myself but as I was about to leave, the figure seemed to be bigger than a normal sized cockroach. I shrugged in fear as I turned swiftly to check what it was. I panicked and screamed my brother's name as it was the largest scorpion I had ever seen.
“ALMOST AS LARGE AS A DESERT SCORPION”, You can search Google to understand my point of view🥲.
Recalling that I once thought I feared cockroaches more than scorpions, that thought immediately vanished and what got stuck in my teeny brain was “What if it fell from up there and landed on my back”??
I couldn't shake the fear off and unconsciously, I started thanking God for my life.
My two brothers sprung into action and within seconds, they had killed and brought the monster down. My mom had gone on a trip so we took its photos and sent to her.
I've become so sensitive to the fact that scorpions can climb walls all the way to the ceiling and believe me or not...
I STILL FEAR COCKROACHES MORE THAN SCORPIONS😂

Rediscovery

Rediscovery
A few days ago, and I was at the market. I saw bright oranges. They looked shiny and fresh. I bought some, not knowing they would change my life.

The next morning, I woke up feeling great. I felt full of energy. I went to the mirror to look at my face. I was surprised. My skin looked better. The pimples I had worried about were less visible. I thought about when I lived with my parents. My face was clear then. But when I moved to Enugu for school, my skin changed. I did not eat bad food, but my face still had pimples.

Then it hit me. I used to eat oranges a lot at home. I had forgotten to eat them since moving. Maybe the oranges were helping my skin! In fact, not may be, it sure was helping my skin.

There are much value in things that we don't treasure because we have them in abundance at a point, and until reality hits, we will never unravel this hidden secretes

Best Help

Best Help
It had been a while since I last relied on Google Maps to find my way, but I decided to give it a try for this trip. I started my journey on foot around 10am, thinking it would be a simple walk. At first, everything seemed straightforward, Google's voice guiding me with confidence. But as I continued, I approached a street that didn’t sit right with me. I hesitated, thinking, “Can this GPS be serious?” Still, the app urged me to go forward, so I did.

The deeper I ventured, the stranger the path became. The road was filled with unnecessary turns that made no sense. Each corner led me further away from where I thought I should be. That’s when confirmed I was lost. I had gone into a completely different environment, nothing like the area I was aiming for. The houses in this new place were built from wooden planks, a community I never knew existed.

At that moment, the most ridiculous thing happened—Google Maps proudly announced, "You have arrived at your destination." I looked around in disbelief. My "destination" was a quiet, unfamiliar area, in the middle of nowhere. As if to add insult to injury, the GPS then went off. No signal, no directions, nothing. Just silence.

I stood there for a few seconds, trying to gather my thoughts. Fortunately, I had some basic understanding of how the GPS worked, and I quickly recalculated my route in my head. I didn’t waste time, knowing full well I had no business staying there longer than necessary. I retraced my steps as best as I could and managed to find my way back to the main road.

I laugh at the experience, but in that moment, it was no joke. I was just glad I got out before I became one of those stories you hear that leave you shaking your head.

Discouraging Thoughts

Lately, I saw a video on TikTok that really scared me. It was about a couple who found something dead inside a big yoghurt or maybe juice, I couldn't remember vividly what the brand was. I couldn't believe it, thought all those kind of companies would have their hygiene at its highest. I was so scared that I didn't want to buy yoghurt again.

But tonight, I was really craving the Hollanda yoghurt. My tummy was growling with hunger. I had 1800 Naira saved up, so I thought, "Why not? I need to try it." I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and remembered the video. But I didn't let it stop me. I went to the store and bought a big Hollanda yoghurt.

When I opened it, I was nervous. My heart was beating fast. But I tasted it. And you know what? It was good! Really good! It has always been good if not for that video that almost ruined my love for Hollandia. I was so happy that I could enjoy the yoghurt without finding anything weird inside.

Now, I'm feeling great. My tummy is full, and I'm satisfied. I hope everyone has a good night like me. I'm glad I faced my fear and tried the yoghurt.

Not the Regular

Not the Regular
While searching through the box, I found something I had forgotten about. It was an iron sponge, different from the tiny, old sponges I usually used. This one looked brand new, shiny, and strong. I remembered buying it because the advertisers promised it could clean tough stains better than the small ones that always got rusty.

As I held the sponge, I remembered my big pot sitting in the corner, neglected and covered in black stains from my cooking. I had given up on it after trying and failing many times with those tiny sponges. But today, I felt like trying out the lost but found sponge.

I filled the pot with water and some detergent, picked up the iron sponge and started scrubbing the hell out of the pot. To my excitement, the stains began to come off! I could hardly believe my eyes.

As I scrubbed, I started to enjoy the work. I imagined the pot thanking me for cleaning it after all this time. It felt good to see it shining again, just like when it was new. I remembered all the delicious soups and stews I had cooked in it before it got so dirty or rather stained.

After a good scrubbing, I rinsed the pot, and it looked beautiful again.
Try and get yourself good washing sponges too mindviewers!

Over Excitement

Over Excitement
I was getting ready to go out and wanted my clothes to look super nice. So, I took out the iron and made it really hot. Just then, my phone rang and It was my friend, Onyinye! I couldng remember the last time that I spoke with her, it's been up to a whole year since we last spoke!

I was so happy to hear her voice that I sat down on the couch to chat with her. While we were talking, I smelled something burning, but I didn’t think much of it because I was having so much fun and I was really excited that I wanted details of every word as we were catching up with gists.

It was until I saw smoke coming from my clothes that I came back to my senses.
I jumped up to look, but to make matters worse, my slippery socks made me fall to the floor but let us leave that story for another day 😌

I quickly grabbed the iron and moved it away from my clothes, but it had already bitten off a lot of chunk from it. I looked at my poor shirt that was all burned and smoking. Onyinye was laughing on the phone.

Even though I felt guilty and thought that I should feel remorseful for losing one of my favorite shirts, I didn't.
It had really been a long time since I spoke with my best friend Onyii.

Agba Representative

Agba Representative
I was call to represent my football team in a community meeting. When the meeting started, the Chairman stood at the front, smiling and welcoming everyone. I listened carefully as people began to share their concerns and ideas. I was amazed at how cooperative everyone was about making our town a better place, I had thought that I would be meeting the village touts but no. Some spoke about improving local foot ball fields, while others discussed the need for better Agencies that could attract external relationships .

Finally, it was my turn to speak. I walked up to the front, my heart pounding. I looked out at the crowd and took another deep breath. “Hello, everyone! My name is Destiny and I’m here to share some ideas from my neighborhood.

I talked about our community set ups and how unorganized we were which needed more support, and how we could create fun events to bring people together. The crowd listened, some even nodding in agreement. As I spoke, I felt kingly inside. This was my moment to shine.

After I finished, I received applause, and I felt a big smile spread across my face, I couldn't even control it. I returned to my seat, my heart still racing, but i still felt proud as i listened as the redt made their nice contributions.

As people started to leave, many came up to me and said how much they liked my ideas.
That alone would be sufficient to make my whole week.

Dogs Revolution

Dogs Revolution
Few years back when I was still a kid around the age of 9 years old, there are certain things that happened that time, that there are no explanation of why they happened even till date. It was in a very interior village, where there was no road, even electricity supply didn't reach there as at that time, most of their lives revolved around the community, since the community was rich with granites, okro and rubber plantation. The people engaged themselves in these things.

During my stay, there came a time that a small boy died of dog bite, he was bitten by their own dog, and he refused to let anyone about it for months, which later resulted in his death. But before he died, he told his parents about the bite, the parents tried to chain the dog and maybe perhaps sell it, but the dog suddenly turned wild and ran to the bush to live. Some boys passed through where the dog was, the dog jumped on one of them and gave the boy a very serious bite, and then the dog returned to it's position. The boy went home and informed his parents, the youths of the community angrily went and killed the dog because it was obvious that it no longer had dog instinct anymore, the boy survived though.

Few days later, we started hearing rampant news of dogs biting people, including their owners without reasons, it was not funny. I remember taking our goat to the bush where it can feed on leaves, and all of a sudden, I saw about 5 local fowls running and flying randomly and shouting as if something was pursuing them. To my greatest shock, it was a dog that was pursuing the fowls, and it was running towards me, I left the goat, threw away the matchet I was holding and ran home to inform my parents, my father went to the bush and saw the dog attacking and wounding our goat, my father managed to scare the dog away and brought the goat back home. I went back to look for the matchet that I threw away carelessly while running from the dog, I could not find it, I didn't even know which part of the bush it fell into and so I never found it.

The attacks of dogs became so serious that the village head gave a decree that there should no longer be any dogs in the village, and any dog found should be killed. This was good news for people, dogs were hunted by the youths, killed and roasted publicly for free consumption. All the dogs in the village were eliminated till no single dog could be found in the land, people now had their peace and comfort back. Till today I still wonder why all the dogs in the village went wild and started attacking people and other animals, it looks very mysterious to me, it looked like a kind of dog revolution, nice one, but they can't win over humans, the dogs learnt that the hard way as they were completely erased in one week.

Forever In My Heart

Forever In My Heart
It was the third term in JS2, I still remember how I had to say goodbye to my friends because of my father who is a pastor, and was transferred to another station and I was going to change school too. During the last days of exams, I told my classmates and friends of how we won't be seeing and might never see each other again after the end of the term, it was a very heart breaking period for me. The friends I had made always made my day bright and fun, smiles is sure to be on my face anytime I set my eyes on them.

Although in JS2, I used to represent the school in quiz competition, and so I was known by the principal and all the teachers and students, I was well loved, and the pains of giving up such a sweet environment was just too much. My best friend back then; Cynthia, she gave me her phone number to call her when I finally have a phone, I got my first phone when I was in SS1 and I called the number, but it was never reachable. I remember how some of my classmates even asked where my father was transferred to, so they can know where to find me, it showed how much they cared about me.

On the day of closing for the third time, I knew I would never see them again after that day, and so I cried so much, and my classmates couldn't hold their tears too, my principal and teachers gave me a farewell hug, I was a brilliant student with a constant first position and the students I used to help do home works felt like it's the end of the world for them. It was a very emotional moment, I cried till I was home. Few days later, we packed and moved to my father's new station, I remember seeing about three of my classmates while I was in the vehicle that drove us to the new station, I waved at them till I could not see them anymore, I still remember them screaming my name on top of their voice, hot tears ran down my cheek and I felt pains in my heart, I felt like going back.

A new term came and I was now in JS3, got enrolled in a new school and certainly made new friends, but the friends and classmates I had in my JS2 were still very fresh in my head, I still remember their names till today and it's as if it was just yesterday. But the painful thing is that I have never seen any of them again, except on Facebook for some of them. The same thing played out again when I got to SS3 where we graduated and left secondary school, I have only seen few of them over the years, the rest are either married or single parents, and that connection was totally cut off after our secondary school days. I got to realize that life revolves, and no matter what, our set of friends will keep on changing till our last day on earth, you keep the ones you can and feel pains for the others you're unable to keep in touch with. But to me, the memories of friends I have had, will always and forever be in my heart, they will always be remembered.

A Day In The Labouratory

A Day In The Labouratory
It was another chemistry practical day in the laboratory with my colleagues, with the lecturer addressing us on how to go about the practical in a simple way, at first we were nervous because it was our first time to carry out that particular experiment, but then the lecturer explained everything in details, till I understand how to carry-on the experiment without any further assistance.

The lecturer divided us into eight groups and I happened to be in group two, he then appointed one person from each group as the group leader, and I was among the people he appointed. The experiment was to be conducted per group, and as group leaders, we were asked to meet the laboratory assistant who is a woman in her 60s, sign and get the apparatus we are to use for the practical, which we did. The rule was that the apparatus must be returned complete, and in good condition, otherwise the group will pay for any damage or loss.

We started the experiment without any further waste of time since we had just two hours to make sure we finish the experiment and make our reports, I understand how to go about the experiment as the group leader, so I was leading. All of a sudden, one of the apparatus (a conical flask) we were using for the experiment went missing, I was terribly scared because I knew if we couldn't find it, that would mean that we will pay for it. And then I saw my colleague that is in another group with two conical flasks, I approached him and told him about the missing conical flask on our table and asked how he managed to be in possession of two conical flasks when we were assigned only one.

He told me that he went back to the laboratory assistant to get another conical flask, I doubted it and told him that I will go to the laboratory assistant and find out if he is telling the truth, he told me to go and ask. I went straight to the Lab assistant and she told me that we are to use the one conical flask she assigned to us for all the experiments, I wanted to be sure so I asked if she had given any of us a conical flask just few minutes ago, and she said she didn't. I was enraged, went back to the guy and asked why he lied to me, he couldn't say a word, I yelled at him why he would have the intention of jeopardizing this practical for me and trying to put my group into problem. He knew that any loss or damage of any of the apparatus will be paid for by the group, and he still didn't care about the penalty we would face. I was really angry, my tone was so high that my fellow colleagues starting pleading that I should calm down, the guy couldn't say a word, his lie had been exposed, I took the conical flask and return to my group's table.

It took me sometime to bring back my concentration in the experiment, as I kept wondering such level of wickedness the guy displayed, he obviously thought that I won't be able to meet the laboratory assistant and ask about the conical flask. I used to hear some of our colleagues saying bad things about the guy, and I was never closed to the guy before, but on that day, the guy had proven the things I had been hearing about him to be true, he didn't even apologize. He had put himself in a situation where his heart will skip anything he sets his eye on me till we graduate and I don't think I will ever have anything to do with him, not to talk of recommendation, some people are just naturally wicked and are to be avoided at all cost.

The Wickedness Of Some Drivers

The Wickedness Of Some Drivers
If I tell you that some driver you give waybill for your customer will not call them when they reach the place and after you call them they will tell you they waited for the person and they have moved when they did not see the person 😂
Nah pure lie 🤥
One driver had done the same thing to me one time like that. I waited for this driver since around 9 o'clock in the morning if I tell you say I go home around 4:50 in the evening

I was calling this driver from time to time o when he was coming only for the driver to tell me he had passed and i would have to wait for his coming back, a journey that is almost 3hrs o God 🤥
And when he was coming back I made sure I called him time to time only for this driver to tell me he had passed again 😏 telling me to come and meet him in another village 🤥 omo , when I get there the driver was actually at a burial ceremony drinking beer 🍻😰

The same thing happened yesterday inside bos that carried me and this driver was telling the woman that he has been waiting for her since which i didn't the driver stopping at any junction to call the owner of the property he only stopped to carry passengers ohh 😮. Now the woman had to wait for the driver to come
back

Nawaaaa

Tasting a Scorpion′s sting

Tasting a Scorpion′s sting
I was lying on my bed, looking at funny videos on my phone. Suddenly, I felt a sharp sting on my back. It felt like electric shock reaching down my bones! I jumped up like a kangaroo!

I turned on my flashlight and shined it on my back and onto my pillow, and voila, there it was- A little scorpion! It had its tail all chargedup and waiting for the next round.
I was kind of scared and relieved, scared that a scorpion had stung me and relieved because it was a little one though the pain was still nailing it's way on my back.

I thought, No way I’m letting this tiny monster get away So I looked around and found my lighter. I felt like a superhero. But before I went to get my lighter, I had flicked it to the floor, carefully trapping the scorpion in a cup.

When I removed the cup, I started with it's arched tail and burnt the hell out of it. I wished that there were more severe punishment that I could administer, but I was out of thoughts.
It didn't take a second before it laid stale there, I wanted it running around while I burnt it but by bit.

How I lost

How I lost
A week ago, I poured my heart and soul into writing a story that I truly believed could win the competition. I spent countless hours crafting the plot, developing how to convey my story, and making sure every word felt just right. Yesterday was the big day, the day the competition would be decided, and I was so anxious to see how my story would perform.

As the clock ticked down, I stayed awake, watching the numbers lag painfully behind. I had reached out to all my friends, both near and far, asking them to support me by liking my story. They did, but it didn’t seem to make a difference. Despite their best efforts, my story wasn’t gaining the attraction I hoped for or needed to qualify.

My phone had died earlier in the night, which meant I missed out on precious time to promote my story. I managed to wake up around 11 PM, uncertain and worried, only to find that everyone I knew was already asleep. I felt a wave of disappointment wash over me as I noticed that my friends had all gone offline. I sent out links to my story, but it felt like shouting into the void; there was no response.

The anxious feeling inside me grew as I watched the clock. The competition was set to end at 1 PM, and as each minute passed, my heart sank a little deeper. My story was still lagging behind in likes, and I didn’t know what else to do.

Well, I lost the game but then, I could still try again right?

1 PM

1 PM
This morning, our class representative called us for an important lecture that was supposed to start at 10 AM. We were all excited and quickly got ready to attend. However, when we arrived at the venue, we found out that there were some problems with the schedule. It turned out that there were other events happening there, which meant we could not hold our lecture at 10 AM as planned.

After waiting for a while, we finally learned that our lecture was moved to 1 PM. At first, this was a bit annoying because we had to change our plans and wait so long. Now, as the sun beats down on me, I am walking around, feeling the heat and stress, trying to make sure I arrive on time.

Even though I’m feeling uncomfortable in the hot weather, I still want to meet up with my classmates and attend the lecture. It makes me think about how sometimes things don’t go as planned, and we have to be flexible.

As I experience all of this, I decided to share my story. Who knows? Maybe someone else will find it relatable or interesting.

Born as a man

While I was coming back from work, I passed a group of men playing Whot at a bar. They were laughing and having a good time. Among them, I noticed someone dressed like a man, in native attire, just like the rest of them. At first, I didn’t think much of it. The person blended in so well that I almost kept walking without a second look.

But something made me stop. The way this person moved, how confident they seemed, caught my attention. I looked closer. Their head was completely shaved, and their face looked very serious. I waited and tried to figure it out.

Then she stood up and her chest was visible 😂 this was a woman!. How could she be sitting there, right in the middle of all those men, playing cards and laughing like she was one of them? She looked and acted just like a man, and there was no sign of any difference. Her son was even dragging her native wear.

I admired her courage anyway. It wasn’t just about how she looked; it was the way she carried herself. Even though I nearly laughed but maybe, that's how she wants to be seen and it's nobody's business.
